Vad du kommer att göra

We will meet at the train station Magliana and I will take you around one of the Roman suburbs. Famous Italian film director Pasolini was finding his inspiration in the simple rough life of this hood and its ordinary at times unprivileged people. Most probably, you would never discover this place on your own, as it is totally off the beaten path. This neighborhood is full of street art. So if you like discovering the precious hidden gems of this kind, it is a place to be. But come mentally prepared: this hood will be very different from what you saw in the central Rome. We will start at one of the biggest murals in the area to learn: - how it all started, - who is Mariuccio, - what is borgata, - and why this socialist Mussolini neighborhood has the most precious street art gems in the city. We'll walk around to: - discover more of the hidden gems, - learn about local poets and artists, - understand what the famous Italian writer Gianni Rodari, famous film director Pier Paolo Pasolini and the one-of-a-kind Mexican artist Frida Khalo have to do with the neighborhood, - and more! We will stop for two short breaks: coffee and aperitif drink. At the end of the walk, I will share some links and Instagram profiles for your further research. Because maybe, just maybe, you will fall in love with the neighborhood, its rough simple life, and unique art.

I'm lucky to be living in Rome for the past five years. I remember my first visit to Eternal City sixteen years ago. It was all about falling in love with its beauties and great Italian food. I also remember how after a week of intensive sightseeing, I started craving to explore the real day-to-day life. When I first saw the part of Rome my husband grew up in, I was astonished by it as much as by Colosseum or Trevi fountain. In a different way though. And now I want to share this completely off the beaten path experience with you. We'll go to one of the roman non-central neighborhoods to explore its modern history, see the street art gems, learn about local anonymous poets and witness the true rough life one never gets to see in the center. On a personal note, I love my family, Freddie Mercury, dogs, cheese, dancing and gigs :)

Var ni kommer att vara

I came to this neighborhood for the first time to meet my husband's family. His parents met in this neighborhood and got married in the church we will pass during the walk. My husband and his siblings grew up being friends with some of the local artists. So a few insights will be truly first-hand. Are you ready to dive in?
