Vad du kommer att göra

We will meet each other at the bottom of the steps to the Capitoline Hill. We will begin by walking up into the Piazza del Campidoglio to see the marvellous square that was designed by Michelangelo, and is home to the famous Capitoline Museums and Rome’s mayoral offices. From there we will wander down the hill to the Theater of Marcellus that dates all the way back to 12BC, and has since been converted into apartments. Just a few steps away we will find the Portico d'Ottavia, built by the emperor Augustus in honor of his sister Octavia. The portico was home to Rome’s fish market from the 15th to the early 20th century.
We will then walk to The Great Synagogue of Rome which is a place of prayer and a vital cultural center for the Jewish community.
As we walk, I will point out some of the best places to have a meal and we will even stop for a taste of traditional Kosher gelato. Next we will make our way to the magnificent Turtle Fountain in Piazza Mattei. We will talk about the fascinating and dramatic story of the fountain and how it was constructed in only 1 day!
Finally, we head to Tiber Island which was used by the ancient Romans as a hospital with the river helping them as a natural barrier aiding to stop the spread of disease.
This is a great place for a stunning view of the river and a great photo opportunity!

Hello!

My name is James and I am a passionate enthusiast of all things Rome, from ancient times all the way to modern day. I’m English, but I was born and raised right here in Rome.

I have an extensive background as a historian, and I’ve been showing tourists around Rome for the past 12 years. I love to share my love for Italian history, food and culture with new friends I make from my experiences.

I look forward to meeting you and showing you my favorite parts of Rome and Lazio!
