Vad du kommer att göra

We'll meet at my family home, just 20 minutes train or taxi ride away from Kuala Lumpur city centre.

Begin with a glass of tea and appetiser before we explore my edible garden with over 50 herbs, spices, and flowers used in everyday cooking. We will see, touch, smell, and taste a variety of local plants like curry leaves and turmeric.

Then, we'll proceed to the kitchen to make Malaysia's National Dish:

1. Nasi Lemak (Coconut rice with spicy sambal)
2. Ayam Goreng Berempah (Spiced Malaysian Fried Chicken)
3. Teh Tarik (Pulled Tea)

I'll introduce the produce that will be used in our class such as fresh coconut milk, lemongrass, ikan bilis (anchovies), belacan (shrimp paste), etc.

You will prepare, hands-on, authentic Malaysian dishes in a real Malaysian kitchen. You will also receive printed recipes so that you could cook Malaysian dishes for your family and friends back home.

Lastly, enjoy a delicious meal together with me and my family while hearing stories of the Malaysian way of life.
Other things to note
I suggest taking GRAB taxi (like Uber). You can also take the MRT to Taman Connaught Station (10 - 15 minutes walk away). At Malaysian home, we always take off our shoes.

We will be touring my edible garden with over 50 species of local plants such as lemongrass, turmeric, and laksa leaves. You will be able to see, smell, touch, and even taste local plants.

Depending on availability, we may even harvest plants that we will use in our cooking.

We will also be cooking in a real Malaysian kitchen using fresh ingredients from the garden and market.

Had a great time learning to cook Nasi Lemak and fried chicken with Sara. Sara was welcoming, took us on a tour of her edible garden and made the experience quite interactive. The dish turned out great and had an authentic flavour. Wonderful way to spend a couple of hours immersed in a Malaysian household

The cooking experience with Sara was beyond my expectations. She is an adorable person, a very didactic and patient teacher, and an excellent and passionate cook. Sara, thank you so much for being so welcoming and for sharing your passion and experience with us! The overall experience from pre-communication to the eventual class was great. The welcome tea and appetizer was a pleasant surprise. It was a very homely feel. Sara showed passion in what she does and was patient in guiding me and walking me through some questions I had while preparing to cook and the cooking itself. She also went above and beyond in preparing a recipe which I thought of learning cook. I was glad we were able to share common topic of discussion about food and return with a nice recipe booklet.

We loved Sara’s class! We got to cook two dishes and learned a ton about the different herbs and plants in her garden (many medicinal plants plus other edible herbs and fruits). The food was delicious too, so come hungry!

Sara is truly a food enthusiastic, and devoted for Malaysian food and culture heritage preservation. We explored her lovely garden where have lots of plants and herbs she grew. I actually taste and smell each of them. During the cooking session Sara always guide me with kind reminders, answer all the questions I ask. And we finish two courses I chose together. It was really fun and inspiring, and I'd highly recommend this course to any food lover or anyone who wish to learn the heart of Malaysian foods. I will definitely come back and learn more dishes in the future!
