Vad du kommer att göra

We can read Rome in a number of ways: in its plan, in the buildings that make its streets and public spaces, in the skyline. During this walking tour you will learn how to “read” Rome, an ancient city, reborn in the fifteenth century and reshaped substantially in the following three centuries. You will discover how Renaissance and Baroque Rome’s urban form, art, and architecture projected the city’s image of itself to its citizens (URBI) and the world (ORBI). Popes, architects, scholars and sculptors invested in Rome a variety of narratives that strove to explain the city’s history, convince its citizens and visitors of its harmony, and exhort society at large to share in and shape its destiny. The city that resulted became a destination for pilgrims and Grand Tourists, and still is today. The tour is organized around three themes—the city and memory, the city as reliquary, and the city as theater. In uncovering some of the meaning of Rome, you will be equipped with the skills necessary to consider how our own cities and communities are, or could be, meaningful.
Other things to note
This is an experience for first time visitors to Rome, the perfect way to look at the history of this city in a short time! The walking tour will let you see things that would take you days to visit.

I am an italian practicing architect and a professor of design and history of Italian architecture. I have been teaching to architecture and art students of american universities programs in Rome for many years, both with in-studio courses but mostly through field trips in the most important italian cities. I also do private guided tours in Rome, focused on the history of the Reinassance and Baroque city. Nevertheless, I am also experienced in the ancient, modern and contemporary art and architecture aspects of Rome and the other major italian cities.

This was a phenomenal tour. The walk was anchored around how Rome was planned and build over time, layer by layer, which was very innovative way of covering a number of time periods in one go. By far one of the best guided tours we have ever done. Davide is super knowledgeable on many different ages (roman, renaissance, baroque, republic) as well as different disciplines (architecture, sculpture, city planning, paintings). Can not recommend this highly enough - more than worth the time and money.

We really recommend to book this tour with Davide at the beginning of your stay in Rome! Going around the city with Davide, who is not only an expert (architect, University professor!), a local, but also a very good story teller will allow you to understand the unfolding of the city tumultuous hystory through its art and architectures. Grazie Davide! We will come back!

For Art-goers, I think this trip should be your starting Mark in Rome. Especially, Baroque and Renaissance, in which you will have a better mental navigation about where to go and what to do next.

Davide is a Roman architect and the perfect person to take this walking tour to learn about the famous architectural history of Rome. It was just my wife and I and Davide was just as engaging and dedicated as if he had a group of 20. Plus, we hit all the big churches and monuments which are just incredible - but getting to experience it with Davide elevated the experience. I’m an architect who knows a good bit of the history of these places, and I still recommend doing this with him. It just brings another level of knowledge, history, and context which makes the experience even better.
