Vad du kommer att göra

Enjoy a perfect day visiting one of the best kept secrets of Xochimilco, an oasis south of Mexico City. Discover with us a magical town immersed with history, culture and traditions: San Gregorio Atlapulco.

The journey begins at the market, where you’ll meet the producers and their stories while you get immersed in the colors, sounds, smells and flavors of the real Mexico. Tlacoyos, tacos, tamales, and atole are only the beginning of a gastronomic experience through the flavors of the pre-hispanic and colonial Mexico.

We’ll explore the “chinampas”, those beautiful floating gardens recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. On a traditional canoe, the “chinamperos” we’ll glide us deep into their canals. Get ready to travel back in time to the ancient Mexico.

There’s no better ending for this amazing day than to share the table with traditional snacks all together as a family while saying “salud” with mezcal.

This is not a tour, this is a unique experience that you can only access with us.

We're a group of travelers proud of our Mexican roots. We understand the need for new experience models that improve the equality of community members. And that is why the two of us - Sergio and José Manuel - joined: to create truly unique experiences that will not only change your perspective about our country, but will also improve community members living conditions.

The group of locals that we'll meet during our experience are fundamental part of our team. They are the ones who truly show us the real Mexico, their culture and traditions.

Var ni kommer att vara

We’ll start at the market, where flavors, sounds, colors, and smells will take you to a real Mexico. After tasting unforgettably delicious food, we’ll go to the chinampas - a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our dear friends, the chinamperos, will be ready to take you back in time - gilding along beautiful canals on a traditional canoe. Later, we’ll prepare, all together, a delicious Mexican lunch with the ingredients we picked at the market.

This experience was probably the most culturally-immersive, unique experience we have ever had using Airbnb or any other travel service ever. Jose was out-of-town on business, so his co-host, Sergio, led the experience and we were joined by a woman who is a resident of the area we were exploring. On the way, Sergio explained that the day of our experience was a special celebration for the town's saint and our experience would be different from a typical day, because the town would be alive with celebrations for this saint. We arrived to the town to witness different types of dancers throughout the main square, preparation for a fireworks show and people busily preparing for home celebrations of their particular saints. We went through the market and we really couldn't walk more than 10 feet without someone warmly greeting our co-hosts. It seemed liked they either knew everyone, or were related in some way. We sampled so many different foods and drinks along the way. We visited the lush gardens and canals and were treated to a beautiful respite of serenity from the crowds in the village. We learned of the history of the canals and gardens and the unique farming techniques. At the end, we were treated to a shot of mezcal. We then went back into the village and entered the main church which was lavishly decorated, so witness the faithful paying their respects to their saint. It was magical. The church smelled of incense and fresh flowers. We received a special invitation to the private celebration of a family for their saint, Santo Niño de las Azucenas. They hosted a neighborhood lunch of chicken mole for their neighborhood. We were graciously welcomed into the celebration and had lunch and tequila. We were told of the history of this celebration and the significance the saint has in their community. We then joined a procession, following the saint to the host family's home. Inside we saw the special accommodations for the saint in this home. The host told us his story of how when he and his wife visited the saint 27 years ago with their very sick child, how their child was healed. He was very emotional and it was a very special moment to witness their faithfulness and to learn about this tradition. We decided to stay into the evening and see the night celebrations highlighted by the biggest display of fireworks we have ever seen. Because we visited on a special day, our experience was different, but I have no doubt that this experience would be amazing on any day of the week. We highly, highly recommend booking any experience with this team. They are amazing and I feel like we've made a great friendship with them.

This was an amazing and unique day. I had a wonderful time exploring Xochimilco. I learned so much of history and culture. The food: tamales, pulque (fermented cactus drink- cooked bananas... was so good and tasty. The canoe ballade was just a must! Thanks a lot to Jose Manuel and Sergio to share their passion for their country.

An incredible experience that you should not miss! José Manuel and Sergio were extremely kind and welcoming, and it was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with them and Cassandra (who is also fabulous) learning about and experiencing San Gregorio Atlapulco and the chinampas with them all. We had great food, many laughs, and a truly beautiful day spent among new friends (including all the other great trip members) learning about old practices. I highly recommend this experience! Thank you José Manuel, Sergio, and Cassandra for sharing this lovely place with us.

What a wonderful experience! Very immersive and not something I could have done on my own. I loved wandering around the market with Sergio (he filled in for Jose Manuel), and sampling all kinds of local fruit and food. Sergio was incredibly kind and friendly and the group had a great time together. I would definitely recommend this experience over the other tours to Xochimilco if you want a truly authentic experience where you interact with locals. Muchas gracias, Sergio!

Absolutely amazing experience. José Manuel and Sergio were our guides through this cultural exploration and they did a fantastic job. It was so clear from the very start that this would be an intimate experience when so many locals would come up to greet the hosts. An amazing day of culture, food, and history. We did this tour early in our CDMX trip and it really helped give context to understand everything else we would do and see. A wonderful time that I would absolutely recommend.
