Villa Jazmin sits on the hill overlooking the Zona Romantica. The view is absolutely magical, both day and night: the bay, the open ocean, the city proper, the mountains, and the jungle. It's heaven on earth.

Boendet
Villa Alta Vista is considered by many to be the most beautiful and luxurious home in Puerto Vallarta. It sits on a hillside with magnificent panoramic views of the city, the ocean and the surrounding jungle. It is just 4 blocks from the Zona Romantica which is filled with wonderful shopping and cosmopolitan restaurants that spill out into the streets; and it is just 2 more blocks to Playa Los Muertos, Vallarta’s main beach. There you can grab a palapa for the day and enjoy margaritas and the freshest fish imaginable. The people-watching is fantastic, and the ocean is warm at all times of the year.
The villa is newly constructed and is filled with art, artifacts and handicrafts from all over Mexico. The interior is warm and inviting, and feels very Mexican. From the minute you enter you will be stunned by the commanding views the villa offers. The living area has 21-foot-wide pocket doors opening onto the beautiful terrace which is graced by a pool as well as an outdoor living room and dining area. The pool is solar-heated and has a separate Jacuzzi. They are covered with mosaic tiles, accented by real gold tiles that glint in the sun. Take your margaritas out on to the terrace at night and enjoy the fresh air and the nightly fireworks.
There is also a rooftop terrace with a hot tub that accommodates 5 people. This space is perfect for enjoying the sun on those cool winter days; and the view from up top is nothing short of stupendous.
Our home has three large and comfortable bedrooms, each with its own commodious private bathroom. The doors to each of the bedrooms are hundreds-years-old colonial hacienda doors that have been restored. The beds have Egyptian cotton sheets, comfy mattresses and hypo-allergenic pillows. The bathrooms have soft fluffy towels. All three bedrooms have queen beds and en-suite bathrooms. We provide maid service 3X a week, and we have a gardener and a pool man who come twice a week.
We have a cook’s kitchen outfitted with everything you can imagine, but if you eschew cooking, we can hire you a cook at extra cost. It will be a hard choice: whether to go to one of the numerous great restaurants in Vallarta or whether to enjoy a meal served on a terrace of the villa with the best view in town. Countless tourists come to restaurant that is a block below us for the commanding views. But our view is even better, and it is so much more private.
For your enjoyment, there is a stereo system with literally hundreds of CDs (music in almost every genre), wi-fi, a Vonage phone with free calls to the US and Canada. Beach towels are provided.
There are so many things to see and do in Vallarta. You can take a zipline tour with Canopy River, which always gets high marks, you can take a whale-watching tour which can be thrilling. The humpbacks raise their babies in the bay during the winter months and are plentiful; rarer, though, are orcas, but if you are lucky you may see them too. There are numerous golf courses with a half hour’s drive as well as great sport fishing and many day charters. If you are divers you can explore many good sites with the best dive shop in town, Twin Dolphin; and you can book snorkeling trips to Los Arcos right at Los Muertos beach. There is a waterslide park, too, and a dolphin experience as well. To get a handle on all the things you can do in Vallarta visit www.vallartafun.net or www.vallartaadventures.com.
Wonderful day trips abound as well. You can take the water taxi to Yelapa, a sleepy fishing village an hour’s boat ride south with a big beach scene and lots of palapa-covered restaurants. It’s a fantastic trip because you get to see our incomparably beautiful coastline. Or you can visit our favorite beach at Punta Negra, a 15-minute bus ride south of town. There are no seafood restaurants here, but the sand is powder-fine, the sea is crystal-clear and the waves are usually gentle and perfect for bobbling around. Or you can head north to Bucerias and Sayulita. Bucerias has a wide golden sand beach and a nice main plaza to explore. Sayulita is a surfer’s heaven. It has super shopping, and a very young and laid-back vibe. And, finally, you could take a day trip to San Sebastian, which is an old colonial silver-mining town in the Sierras. It is a serene and peaceful town where you can get a good meal and an eyeful of old Mexico.
While you can walk to town easily, the walk back up is a little breathless if you ask me. My husband Ed walks back up all the time, but I don’t. I almost always take a cab back. They are everywhere and cost $5 from el centro. You certainly don’t need a car, but we think your experience in Vallarta will be richer if you rent one. That way, you can visit the pristine beaches and take interesting day trips. Hertz rents cars at the airport for as little as $102 a week, but only if you book ahead. One last thing: our home is a bad place to bring toddlers. There is a 27-foot drop from the pool to the street below. This makes for a spectacular infinity pool experience, but it would be a tragedy if a child fell over the edge. The drop is even higher from the rooftop terrace.
We have a book at the villa filled with our Vallarta Tips -- our favorite restaurants, shopping, etc., plus everything you need to know about the house itself (wi-fi passwords and the like). If you are curious, we are both retired. Ed was a software engineer (Bear Stearns, ADT, Barclay’s Bank) and I was a corporate executive (Kraft Foods, Miller Brewing, PowerBar). These days Ed takes a lot of photos and I design houses and play a lot of cards. We are both looking forward to welcoming you to our home. We are sure you will love it too.

Zona Romantico, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco

The house is on the 'Fifth Avenue' of Vallarta, Calle Hortensias. But it abuts a mixed neighborhood of Americans, Canadians and Mexicans. This is not a gated community. As with virtually any real neighborhood in Mexico, Mexicans sometimes party large, but for the most part, they are quiet and respectful. We are very close to all our neighbors and they watch out for us. This is a very safe neighborhood and nobody in our neighborhood has been harmed in the 11 years we have lived here. If you want to experience the exuberance and joy of Mexico, this is your place. But if you want to live in an all-white gated community, this is probably not the place for you.
