Our cool modern nipa hut is located in Catugasan, Lila, Bohol, just 28 kilometers away from Tagbilaran City. It comes complete with an airconditioned bedroom and attic with bathroom and CR. It has a fully equipped kitchen. Guests have the choice to swim in the sea or in the pool. Most of all, you have the entire sea and beach to yourself and a view that stretches all the way to the submerged volcano Mt. Hibok-Hibok Camiguin on clear sunny day. It is ideal for bonding moments.

Bitoon Resthouse is a quaint beachfront nest that you can come home and recharge. Bitoon is a local name for a star, but the old folks call this beach Bitoon in reference to the many trees called Bitoon that are still alive in the area up to this day. These trees bear some fruit that resemble like a star and perhaps derived its name from there. At night, you can only hear the sounds of the crickets and gentle waves caressing the shore.

Var du kommer att vara

Lila, , Bohol, Filippinerna

Local folklore says that Lila derived its name from the water lilies that abound the town before. Water lilies used to float around the town's Tinugdan, a cool spring before it was developed into a spring pool. Locals use the spring to wash their clothes, bath and swim. Some hold picnics there.

Lila is known as the "Land of Adventurers" because most Lilanhons go out of the province for greener pasture.
Bohol used to be a very poor province where agriculture and fishing are not sufficient enough to send their kids to school. In the past, Lilanhons usually went to Mindanao, most of them in Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Surigao, Butuan and even Zamboanga and Cotabato.

Boholanos are among the most hardworking among the Filipinos. But the little opportunities in the island had forced most of them to look for greener pasture outside the island. Mindanao is the most popular destination among Lilanhons.
There, they peddle tobaccos, work in agricultural plantations, in retail and even as domestic help just to feed families and send children to school. Some were lucky to join the earlier batch of recruits of pineapple planters in Hawaii and eventually land in the mainland US.
Now, most Boholanos have finished university degrees. It is seldom to see a household with no family member working or living abroad. Houses have been renovated and expanded. On Sundays, the church yard is filled with all sorts of cars by churchgoers, indicating progress has finally come to Lila.

Boholanos are very religious, mostly devout Catholics. Most activities are centered around the church. They go home to Lila every October 7 of each year for the feast of the town's patron saint, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary.
The town fiesta celebration is known for being extravagant, overflowing food and drinks. Several carabaos are slaughtered during this celebration and every household brings out their best, in their food, in their clothing and their hospitality. I have the feeling before that Lilanhons worked hard the entire year in preparation for this one big event of merrymaking and reacquainting with relatives, friends, mending relationships, and making new friends. A guest will not go home empty handed. If you missed attending a town fiesta, you will always be missed by the host. Lilanhons also go home in the month of May to celebrate the feast of Sta. Cruz in their barrios, but the October 7 town fiesta is a grander celebration!

Under din vistelse

We have a couple caretaker, Nilo and Loren. They can help you with instructions about the market where you can buy some stuff and some places of interest in the town, including our cool spring pool called Tinugdan. Visit our church. Bohol has one of the nicest Catholic churches in the Philippines. Notably, a church is situated right across a municipal hall similar with most towns in the province. We can show you how the locals live, gather sea urchin and seaweeds. We can show you how the locals gather seafood during low tide season. If you want to go for a boat ride and dive, they can arrange for a local boatman for a fee. Our sea is one of the cleanest in the country. Visitors in Bohol can explore the island using a motorcycle, we can lend you one, too!
