This is a two-story, renovated barn adjacent to the chicken coop in rural Vermont with views of the forests. It has brand new floors, a new kitchenette, and fresh look. (Some renovation is still taking place.) The chicken coop is just next door but the birds are free-range and range they will. Enjoy a private, hot shower in the garden, just outside. This listing is only suitable for people comfortable with dogs, cats, and chickens which will undoubtedly greet you outside during your stay.

OK, you won't sleep in the coop, but this barn space allows you to sleep just next door to get the full country experience. This two story little house is quaint with wooded views of the Vermont countryside and not a single, road in sight. Our guest space is simple and sort of retro, harking back to a time when we weren't so preoccupied with screens. Come here to read (or write) a book, take a wooded walk, pick fruit, play an audio tape, or write a letter. Wake to the sound of crowing roosters. Sleep to the sound of singing frogs. See a shooting star, catch a firefly, make a s'more. You get the picture. This is no hotel room and it never hopes to be. It is a back-to-the-land, rejuvenation opportunity.

Recently renovated with two floors, the Chick Inn has a king sized bed on the second floor and a pull-out couch in the living area below. Both floors and stairway to the second floor are brand, spanking new. In fact, the finish work is yet to be done! The upstairs floor still is still missing its tung oil finish so it has a sort-of Scandinavian blonde-wood feel, but the downstairs is fully stained, oiled, and pretty. PLEASE DO NOT WEAR SHOES IN THE CHICK INN. WE even take them off at the door.

The Chick Inn has a small kitchenette for making tea, coffee, or toast, and a cupboard full of bowls, cups, glasses, and cutlery. Also it has a little refrigerator to store groceries. We have recently added a sink and little stove top.

Inside there is a simple (toilet and sink) bathroom, outside you will find a heated open air shower, inside a privacy screen within a raging, floriferous garden. This shower has a stepping stone floor and is decorated with a million tiny, round stones for the spaces in between. These stones were collected one by one from our visits to places around the world. They are stony reminders from Kilimanjaro, the UP of Michigan, the North Sea, and so on. While showering you will see the tips of blooming flowers from the surrounding garden, and some that have escaped into the shower itself. This shower may be also be used by campers (and us!!!) Try it out with a candle, some Pandora, and nothing but the stars above. It takes about 30 seconds to warm up but then will be as hot as you need.

Downstairs there is a very large and comfy couch, a work station table and chair, a small glass breakfast table, and the kitchen. You will see my large work plotter down there too as this serves as my office during the week.

The Chick Inn is situated in the barn right behind our main house but the views are oriented away so we don't look at each other via windows. It seems more private that way. I think you will agree that it feels remote even nearby the other houses. We have a little hamlet of neighbors to the west, and some of them keep horses right across the yard. The surrounding forest is literally 100's of acres and we are at the end of a Town Trail - so it is remote. Embrace it, even if it scares you a little. It is rural, very dark at night, but totally safe.

The chickens live right next door, so yes you will likely hear the chickens in the morning. That is part of the charm. We have free-ranging hens and one rooster named Uncle Abby. Our neighbor's chickens join in the fun too. If you would like to be a part of the feeding experience, please let us know.

This is be a great rental for outdoor enthusiasts like hikers, bikers, kayakers, Wanderlust attendees. It is perfect for low-maintenance and/or private types of people who want their own space. This is also a good rental for couples (of all types) or families and could accommodate even more if you were willing to sleep on the other couch or floor. Since it is outside of the main house, you will not be directly sharing any space with us and can choose to keep mostly to yourselves. (IMPORTANT NOTE: This is NOT a good location for high maintenance types who really want the amenities of a hotel. This will NEVER have the sort of amenities a hotel would have. It is a country rental and comes complete with quirks, creaks, and imperfections (poor cell service and weak internet, for example). We like it that way. Also importantly, we are not interested in hosting wild partiers, indoor smokers, or anyone who will not respect the place. It would simply KILL ME to come into our sweet little cottage and smell the rank odor of yesterday's smoke. So please, please, please do not apply if this is what you have in mind.) This is our little gem and we want to share it with just the right people who will be respectful of its charm.

Currently there is no key to the outer door. We haven't much use for one in the past. I'd be mighty unusual for someone to want to break in way out here. You can lock it from the inside to feel safe at night.

This is a three season rental. There is no heat out there. Be prepared if you come in early spring or late fall.

There is no tv and fairly shoddy wireless internet. It does have a great selection of books and my old audio tape collection for great tunes. You have free access to use the stereos both upstairs and down.

Wanderlust special. Please inquire about special reduced rate during Wanderlust. Only the bedroom will be private but the downstairs kitchen and bathroom will be shared with campers. The upstairs has been freshly renovated!

Jamaica, Vermont, USA

We live at the end of a "dead end" road - the abuts a Town Trail. We have a little hamlet of houses here but the surrounds are composed of 100's of acres of wooded forest and horse pastures. IN the summer you will be greeted by free-ranging chickens and gardens galore. Come in mid-July and enjoy all-you-can-eat raspberries.

I live from Jamaica, Vermont and am a garden designer/landscape architect and my husband is a painter/ski instructor. My daughter is vivacious and has a great zest for life. We are all country folk. We like nature and wild activity, bluegrass music and contra dancing. When not working we are likely to be found climbing mountains, biking, swimming, and gardening. Our house is a house in progress. We are its architects and builders. We are doing Air BnB because we love the idea behind it. It is so simple and pure. Plus is helps us fund our constant house improvement projects. We are not subsistence farmers by any means, but we definitely have what some are calling the modern homestead. That is we produce a lot of our food at our house. We have a huge garden and ranging chickens. We own a sugarbush from which our neighbor produces syrup. We chop our own firewood and tend our own trails. We do a lot of things for ourselves like this, This land is perfect for that sort of living. We like all sorts of people who are relaxed and real. We will try, ourselves, to be relaxed are real around guests and hosts. What other way is there to be? We look forward to meeting you.

We are sorry to ask but we can only accept guests with vaccination at this time. Both Rob and Erica (the hosts) are fully vaccinated but our daughter is too young for a vaccination so we are being ultra careful. We thank you for understanding.
