Casa Luna Negra is a tropical house on the Osa Peninsula, close to the beach in a quiet neighborhood.

This is a large two-story open-air tropical home, built in 2017. It was designed and built by craftsmen using the highest quality materials: it is our dream home. It is kept cool naturally by an open design with ceiling fans and a very high thatched roof. The hardwood furniture was locally made.

Boendet

Provincia de Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Cabo Matapalo, known by the locals as simply Matapalo, is a small community located 15 km south on a bumpy dirt road from the town of Puerto Jimenez. The area consists of a scattering of eco-lodges and rental homes with one local bar. There are no banks or grocery stores, so make sure to stock up in Puerto Jimenez before heading out. The abundant wildlife also makes this area popular among travelers. Four species of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans, sloths, agoutis, and coatimundis are just a small sample of the wildlife that one sees on a regular basis. The Audobon Society has named Cabo Matapalo one of the premiere bird watching venues in the world. Matapalo is where travelers go to be at one with nature and find ultimate relaxation.

The pristine rainforests and rugged natural beauty of the Osa Peninsula make this region one of the most beautiful areas in Costa Rica. Declared one of the most biologically intense places on Earth by National Geographic Magazine, the Osa Peninsula has become the premier eco-tourism destination in the country. The Osa Peninsula is a secluded nature wonderland, playing home to many of the country’s rare and endangered animal and bird species, including squirrel monkeys, jaguars, and other forest cats. With a large chunk of the peninsula forming the Corcovado National Park, this area has the single largest expanse of lowland tropical rainforest in Central America and is one of the tallest rainforests in the world. The area hosts more than 375 bird species, a fourth of Costa Rica's tree species and more than 400 vascular plant species, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. The rain forest is made up of 700 tree species — the greatest diversity of tree species in all of Central America.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS:
Going to town is a bit of a trek so we recommend you stop in town to buy groceries on your way to our place. That way you can focus your time on the beach and the jungle with an occasional trip to town when you get tired of cooking or want to book a boat excursion or other tour. You can taxi from town to the house but if you want to be mobile enough to fully explore the area we highly recommend having a vehicle.

Note the hour of sunset. It goes down about the same time every day and when it goes down it gets very dark very quickly. Try to end your day excursions with enough time to find your way back to where you need to go before the sun sets. Always keep a good headlamp or flashlight with you. Going on a morning hike to the waterfall and planning to be back by noon? Bring a flashlight.

We have the modern conveniences and a sufficiently sized solar system of the highest quality but please be mindful and conserve. The water system is pumped from the well and pressurized by the solar system and the solar power is stored in our batteries. This is off-the-grid tropical living with all of the benefits and limitations that come with it.
