Odie's Lodge is a charming self-catering lodge in idyllic rural setting beside Kilbeg Pier on the shores of beautiful Lough Corrib.

Situated a half an hour drive to the north of Galway City (28 km), the property is ideally located as a base for discovering the Galway City, Connemara, South Mayo, Cliffs of Moher, and the Wild Atlantic Way.

● GENERAL: The entire lodge, kitchen is well equipped to be your home away from home – just bring groceries and begin to relax & enjoy your beautiful and serene surroundings. The lodge was extensively refurnished and renovated in 2018 to offer a modern and cosy space for a short break or week long stay for couples, families and friends/groups who are looking for a peaceful retreat after long days exploring all that Galway, Connemara and the West of Ireland has to offer.

● KITCHEN/DINING: The kitchen/dining room has a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, large fridge freezer, television, dining table, dishwasher, and a washer / dryer. The study/play room has a large three seat sofa, coffee tables, and a desk with swivel office chair. Wireless internet is available throughout the lodge.

● BEDROOMS: The lodge has 2 large comfortable bedrooms, the master bedroom has a king sized bed and is en-suite with a walk-in shower. The second bedroom consists of a double and a single bed, and also has a sink & mirror. The sofa in the study is a pull-out double bed used for larger visiting groups. Each bed is dressed in freshly laundered bed linen at the beginning of each stay.

● BATHROOMS: The second bathroom in the lodge is at the end of the hall across beside the second main bedroom. This bathroom is equipped with glass shower enclosure and power shower. Freshly laundered bathroom and hand towels are provided for each group member at the beginning of their stay. The lodge is heated (water and space) by a new gas heating system, which has a large storage tank for efficiency and to reduce waste.

● OUTSIDE, there is a large garden (circa 1.5 acres) with outdoor furniture and space for a disposable barbecue if you wish. The lodge has ample free and safe parking.

The lodge has extensive private gardens (cira 1.5 acres) which will be shared with the guests in the other lodges.

Please help protect our environment by separating paper, cardboard and plastic waste and placing in the blue bin provided during your stay in the lodge. There are bottle bring banks for glass and metal containers in all of the villages locally.

You’ll love the location on the lake, the outdoors space and total peace away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is ideal for adventurers of all ages, couples, groups and families (with kids).

● Groceries & Services
The large market town of Headford (6 km) is a 10-minute drive away, it has a wide array of grocery, chemists, cafes, pubs, food establishments and professional services (medical etc.). Galway City & Ballinrobe are a half hour drive with its large variety of supermarkets and retail outlets.

● Food & Drink
Locally, Murphy’s pub is a minutes’ walk from the front door of the lodge on the stroll down to the pier. Campbells Tavern a venue famous for its music and nightly music sessions is a 10 minute drive up the road. Headford town has a host of lovely bars and places for food, such as the anglers rest and the Thatch bar in Georges square.

● Places of Interest
The ancient Ross Errilly Friary, a medieval friary founded in 1349 is 8 km away. Many archaeological monuments can be found locally, including prehistoric burial cairns, Iron Age stone enclosures, early Norman and latter castles, churches and ringfort mounds.

The world-famous Ashford Castle and the village of Cong is 22 km away. Enjoy the ‘Quiet Man’ cottage museum, Cong Abbey, bicycle & walking tours and great traditional food with a creamy pint of Guinness.

● Fishing & Water Sports
The Headford area is popular for anglers, Lough Corrib is famous for its salmon and trout fishing from February to September. Boat hire and gillies available locally.
Kayaking tours of the lake are available locally.

● Golfing
There are a lot of great golf courses in the region, for example Ballinrobe Golf Club is a well-regarded parkland course (open day is Friday)-just over a half hour drive from the lodge. A further half hour up the road is Westport Golf club famous for its amazing views and quality of golf challenge. If you wish to play a links - then the Connemara Championship golf club in Ballyconnelly (a 2-hour drive across beautiful Connemara) is an absolute must. Finally, as a quirky fun golf experience the Connemara isles golf club takes some beating - roughly hour and a half drive to this nine-hole course built on islands- bring loads of golf balls :)

National Park, 'Kylemore Abbey' home to the Benedictine nuns, the ‘Sky Road’ and
scenic Clifden amongst many sights and activities.

● Westport & Croagh Patrick: Westport town is well known for its fine dining and
lively pubs. Westport house and country estate is a popular day visitor attraction
with the Westport gardens, children zoo, boating and pirate adventure park.
Croagh Patrick is where legend has it that St. Patrick (Irelands Patron Saint) rested
on his travels through Ireland. Croagh Patrick is located on the Louisburgh Road
and can be taken in as a magnificent road trip on the way back from Westport
through the Lennane Valley and the Killary fjord.

● Galway City - A university city located at the meeting of Lough Corrib and Galway
Bay is both a picturesque and lively city with a wonderful fun culture and
a fascinating mixture of locally owned, speciality shops, often featuring locally
made crafts. Galway sits beside the village of Claddagh, the birth place of the
Claddagh ring.

● Cliffs of Moher & the Burren. Voted Irelands favourite visitor attraction in 2019 as
per the marketing spiel “You simply cannot travel to Ireland without paying a visit
to Ireland’s top tourist attraction, the breathtaking Cliffs of Moher, situated in
County Clare along the wild Atlantic Way. The Cliffs of Moher have majestically
faced the Atlantic for over 350 million years and their beauty is incomparable – it is
Ireland’s most visited tourist attraction and when you visit you will understand
why.”. The Burren meaning the rocky place is approximately 360 square kilometres
in size and offers an environment, floral and landscape unique to the area.

I make every effort to meet each group of guests when they arrive at the lodge, so as to help them get orientated in the lodge and offer any tips / advice on the local and wider area. After this initial meet guests will be left to enjoy the lodge as their own (I do not live on site), but I will be available at any time during your stay to answer any queries or questions that they may have.

If I am unable to meet guests as they check in for whatever reason, the lodge is equipped with a key lock box so guests can arrive and settle in.
