Originally from Canada but now a Mexican national; I moved to Oaxaca in 1987. I owned an art and craft gallery for years in Oaxaca called La Mano Magica and both the ranch and my place in the city are decorated with art I collected for almost twenty years. I've had horses for sixteen years and relocated the ranch in 2010 to Rojas de Cuauhtemoc, to a gorgeous piece of property on the edge of thousands of acres of pristine communal lands.
I love both my places the ranch in the country and my great 1950's gem in the heart of the historic center. I have always felt that if you are going to live in the city than live in the heart of it, where everything is in walking distance. I adore the ranch nestled on the western edge of the Valle de Tlacolula with views 75 kms. away. Hike, ride, cycle or just watch the sky change and listen to the birds sing.
I wrote a book called "Oaxaca Celebration" published in 2005 by the Museum of New Mexico Press.
In the photo I'm holding the most gigantic corn "tlayuda" (crispy tortilla) that I have ever come across and I found it at a good festival in Oaxaca. Oaxaca has a lot of food festivals!!!
