If you're looking for old-time casual Alaskan spirit, this is it!
9.5 miles east of Downtown Homer, Fritz Creek Guest House is a rustic old Alaskan home, with beautiful views from every part of the house. It was built in the 1970's around a 1950s log cabin, which is now the kitchen and downstairs bathroom.
Make your own breakfast with eggs from our small flock of free-range chickens, oatmeal, fruit, bread, and jam. Enjoy coffee, cocoa and a selection of teas any time at our drink station.
Save money by preparing fresh local seafood and veggies in the kitchen, fully stocked with spices, cooking equipment, and Alaska cookbooks. Message me for info about local farmer's markets.
The ground floor Raven's Nest Room with queen bed accommodates 2 adults plus a folding cot with a foam pad. The room has a small private fridge, and there's an empty cupboard next to the stove for guests. There is a private shower in the room, and a private bathroom right next door.
Towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and blow dryer provided. Ironing board and steam iron in the upstairs bathroom.
Second-floor Eagle View room with queen bed accommodates 2 more adults or kids, and can be available for groups of 3 or more, with advance notice.
The Eagle View bedroom is up 13 steps, next to a shared bathroom. The room has wonderful, lofty views of the bay, spit and mountains, although there is less noise privacy, as it sits over the living room and has solid wood plank floors. There's a children's library right outside the bedroom door.
Browse our Alaska library in the living room, with books, maps, artifacts and travel info, including local area maps with trailheads and points of interested circled.
The main deck is a great place to relax and watch the sun play on on the mountains and glaciers. There is a nice lawn area with a picnic table, fire pit, firewood, and barbecue facilities with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. We also offer a tent camp rental in the summer.
The property has wild Alaska charm, surrounded by native plants and flowers, and a small creek running through the wild part of the land. Leave your window open a little to hear the Great Horned Owls and Wilsons Snipes at night, and thousands of wild birds greeting the dawn. Moose often wander through, and our small flock of free-ranging chickens. Their cute 1950's henhouse, like the main house, is one of the original buildings in the neighborhood.

Late-night check-ins are fine. I encourage folks to enjoy the light summer nights. You can have a summer day anywhere, but the summer nights in Alaska have a magic of their own.
Guests have use of the kitchen with a copy of "Cooking Alaskan" and a well-stocked spice cupboard. Buy some wild Alaskan seafood at Coal Point Trading Company on the spit, and save money over dining out, by preparing your own!
There is a picnic table on the main lawn, and a covered, lighted, fully equipped outdoor kitchen with gas grill and Coleman stove for barbecues.
Relax and enjoy the views from the living room, deck, or by the firepit in the garden, with wood provided.
Laundry is available for $5 per load, limited to 2 loads per week, due to our need to have water trucked in, but doing laundry at The Washboard is a classic Homer experience, as many folks in the area have limited or no running water.
On-site dog sitting usually available with advance request.

We pay to have water trucked in, so please don't waste water when washing dishes and with excessive toilet flushing.
Our on-demand water heater means the hot water won't run out as you relax and refresh in the shower.

Homer, Alaska, USA

Located in the Fritz Creek area. A quiet, rural neighborhood abounding with native wildlife, and country roads with breathtaking views that are peaceful enough for moonlight walks.
The house is one of the original homes in the neighborhood. Most homes are on 2 and 5 acre lots.
1 mile west is the historic Fritz Creek "town center", with Fritz Creek Store, originally built in 1954 with horse power and used as a community center. It's now a small grocery store, post office, liquor store and kitchen with pizza, baked goods, soups, sandwiches, vegetarian dishes, and more. There are a couple tables, and it's a perfect stop for picnic treats.
Across the street from "The Fritz" is the log cabin Homestead Restaurant, operating since 1961, offering seafood, steaks, glacier views, a small cocktail bar, and featuring local fine art. Also nearby is the 27 acre Alaska Perfect Peony farms, with a 1947 log cabin, visible from the road.
Further East you'll find McNeil Canyon Meats for game and local livestock processing, McNeil Canyon School, with it's playground and surrounding wilderness trails connecting to Eveline State Recreation Site, located off Alpine Meadows Drive. The network of trails traverses mostly gentle terrain, with wonderful views of rolling hills, Kachemak Bay, Kenai Mountains and Glaciers. Spectacular wild flower hiking in the summer and groomed in winter for skiing, snowshoers and well-mannered dogs. On-site parking, outhouse, picnic table.

I'm a lifelong Alaskan and adventurer with abundant local knowledge about scenic locations, Alaska history, and the pre-oil boom days. I grew up in Anchorage from the late 1960's and since the late 1980's have lived and worked in the construction and fishing industries in many remote locations, such as Denali Park area, the Arctic Coastal Plain, Alaska Peninsula, the Interior, Copper River Valley, Prince William Sound, and the Kenai Peninsula. I have a degree in Natural Sciences with a focus on anthropology and the geologic history of Alaska. I'm an experienced and knowledgeable native Alaskan plant guide and certified Community Tree Steward, and I enjoy assisting international visitors with Alaska travel planning, in addition to guiding groups on multi-day wilderness adventures, natural history and native plant hikes, beach salmon bakes, and farm & garden tours.

My interaction with guests varies, as I am often working in town. I like to let folks enjoy the space to themselves as much as possible, but I love to visit, provide travel info, and swap stories. My room and office is upstairs.
