Everyone's safety is our top priority. We are following Airbnb's enhanced cleaning protocols. Our neighborhood is peaceful.

The Magic House, circa 1909, is in the heart of a charming restaurant and boutique district, 3 blocks walking to SE Hawthorne and Division.

The Magic House was Todji's sculpture studio for seventeen years, and we have done the restoration ourselves. We hope that you enjoy her unique character, up cycled furnishings and artistry.

Boendet
Welcome to the Casa Mágica!

Good people of all colors and orientations are welcome. Love for all creation is practiced here.

The protests have been happening far from The Magic House; on the other side of the river downtown, and in Northeast Portland. The Magic House is located in the Richmond district of Southeast Portland which has remained peaceful.

Because of COVID-19 we separated The Magic House into separate units, one on each floor. This listing is for the Casa Mágica which is it's own separate unit on the first floor. The entrance is through the backyard. The entrance to the backyard is through a locked gate that is shared with other guests who will be staying in a different separate unit, called the Magic Barn, that is detached from The Magic House (see photos).

The Magic House is located fifteen minutes to the airport, convention center and downtown, there are rental bikes and four bus stops within three blocks, and ample free street parking.

Walking through the neighborhood is very charming and there is plenty of space for social distancing in the surrounding streets.

The Magic House was Todji's sculpture studio for seventeen years, and we have done the restoration ourselves. We hope that you enjoy her unique character, up cycled furnishings and artistry.

The colors are bright, the floors are worn and full of 111 years of stories! Most of the sculptures were sculpted right here between 2000 and 2017.

There is a mini fridge, microwave, hot water heater and coffee and tea to get you going in the morning. Coffee and breakfast is one block south on Cesar Chavez Blvd at Trinket (Walk right from the driveway). The bed is full sized, also called a double, for two people.

Please wear a mask while entering and exiting because you may cross paths with guests from the Magic Barn, your hosts, or occasional maintenance workers. If this is not agreeable to you, then please do not book.

Hobie lives onsite in case you need anything, and Todji and Gisele live nearby.

Gästers tillgång
Guests have access to the living room, dining room / bedroom, and full bathroom on the 1st floor. Enter from the backyard sculpture garden.

There likley will be other guests staying in the Magic Barn in the backyard. The backyard sculpture garden is shared space. We encourage everyone to exchange friendly hellos, make friends, and also to respect social distancing and privacy.

Andra saker att notera
The Magic House is very centrally located, and along with that convenience comes visual and audible street traffic. We are off of a fairly busy four lane street, three blocks to the heart of the restaurant and boutique districts of SE Hawthorne Blvd and SE Division St.

We consider our neighborhood to be very safe. Walking or driving through it is very charming, and their is space for social distancing for waling in the streets.

The Magic House was built in 1909 and restored with love by your hosts. The paint is fresh and the floors are worn and full of stories. This is a subdivided home and you likely will hear guests in the other units.

A majority of our guests have enjoyed comfortable stays and the traffic has not been an issues, but for some guests the location of the busy street has not been ideal.

Because The Magic House is on a busy street, our neighbors do not notice our guests coming and going, so we consider our location to be five stars. Nearby short term rental houses on the quiet residential streets have chronically disturbed neighbors. Our guests can feel 100% welcome knowing that they are not disturbing our neighbors, and locally owned businesses appreciate your patronage, just as we do.

Due to COVID-19 the kitchen and laundry room are currently not available. The bathroom has the only sink, and it is a very small sink. There is a small kitchenette.

Todji rented rooms to artists for seventeen years while restoring The Magic House and building a career in fine art sculpture. Today Todji and Gisele produce public art bronze sculpture monuments for US cities.

Portland, Oregon, USA

The Magic House is centrally located in one of the most beautiful, charming, and safest neighborhoods in Portland.

There is an abundance of restaurants, grocery stores, neighborhood strolling, boutique browsing and hiking options within walking distance.

See a movie, or just step in to witness the beautiful and iconic McMenamin's Bagdad theater, accompanied by an incredible restaurant/bar/pool hall in the back called the "Back Stage Bar", at SE 37th and Hawthorne. It will give you a feel for classic Portland!

We are minutes from Mt Tabor park which has a lovely forest with walking trails sitting upon a dormant volcano, and we are 45 minutes to the spectacular 600 foot tall Multnomah waterfall in the gorgeous Columbia River Gorge scenic area.

Division is the new up and coming Southeast neighborhood. With lots of modern architecture, new restaurants and shops you will get a feel for the freshest vibe Portland has to offer.

Here is a list to get you started:

Restaurants:

(The options are endless but here are a few popular favorites!)

Serving Food Late - Sapphire Hotel at 50th and Hawthorne, Romantic and sexy atmosphere- great for late night drinks and gourmet bar food.

Stumptown Coffee Roasters- 45th and Division, Classic Great Portland Coffee

Trinket- One block away on Lincoln and 39th, great for Brunch with their locally sourced eggs!) Harlow- 36th and Hawthorne, Hip and Healthy, great for lunch, or fresh veggie juice.

Por Que No- 46th and Hawthorne, Wildly popular Mexican with a great playful decor. (Don’t be intimidated by the line, you order at the counter, and then get a seat and your order will be out in no time)

Pok Pok- 32nd and Division, There are literally 11 Thai restaurants in walking distance, but Pok Pok is the best. Began as a food cart, but grew into a Restaurant Empire. Worth the wait.

Bollywood Theater- 30th and Division, Indian food small plates. Also along line but worth it! Salt and Straw- 33rd and Division, Food Networks top five ice creams! Super Popular!

Lauretta Jeans- 34th and Division, Breathtaking Pies! Tidbit Food Cart Pod, 28th and Division, Fabulous food cart selection, lots of seating, including a beer garden and vintage clothing bus. A truly Portland experience.

Hiking: The website of "Friends of the Columbia Gorge" has detailed information about many hikes in the scenic and nearby Columbia River Gorge. It is a 45 minute drive from here to enter the gorge. Below are the names of hikes that we love and recommend. Check the website to find a hike with a distance and fitness level that suits you. For those who are visiting the gorge for the first time, I recommend visiting the most spectacular, and also the most touristicated, 600 foot Multnomah Falls. For those who want a challenging half day hike you can begin at Multnomah Falls and hike a loop called the Franklin Ridge Loop. Multnomah Falls /Franklin Ridge Loop Eagle Creek Angels Rest Bridal Veil Falls Triple Falls Wahkeena Falls

Groceries, Pharmacy and Shopping:

New Seasons- Local Health Food Store (40th and Hawthorne)
Fred Meyers- Local Department/Grocery store (Cesar Chavez and Hawthorne)
Rite Aid Pharmacy- Drugstore/pharmacy (Cesar Chavez and Division)
Powell’s Books- A smaller version of Portland’s famous Bookstore (37th and Hawthorne)
Gold Door- Wonderful Imports from around the world (37th and Hawthorne)

Enjoy!

Todji met Gisele on a trip to Rio De Janiero Brazil when the winds of destiny blew him to the front door of Gisele's little house in the forest. They went on a first date in Peru, driving through the Andes Mountains and motor canoeing in the Amazon. They became engaged and Todji moved to Rio de Janeiro where they married in 2010. They moved back to Portland in 2012 to work as a team producing bronze public sculpture monuments for US cities, and for Gisele to study and teach yoga. They continued to restore and transform Todji's old fixer upper into "The Magic House" until it was ready to receive diverse travelers such as yourself! Todji, Gisele and Hobie lived together as housemates for two and a half years at the Magic House. Hobie is a writer, teacher, caretaker and yogi and currently lives at the Magic House as your onsite host. Todji and Gisele live nearby and are planning to start a family. Thank you for your interest in staying with us, we hope to host you! May we all be blessed with wind under our wings to achieve our highest potential on our soul's path serving the higher purpose.
