Utsiktspunkt
“Overlooking the city, Vulcan -- the god of the forge -- is Birmingham's iconic symbol. The city, which boomed in the late 19th century as an iron and steel town, is famous for its abundant natural resources. Vulcan Park provides a great vantage for seeing the city, and it has a small museum of Birmingham history. ”

Bryggeri

“One of our favorite breweries. It is located in Avondale and also has a sour-beer-specific branch just .16 miles away from it (The Sour Room). They have light beers, Belgian-style beers, and IPAs. My favorite is the tripel: Miss Fancy's Tripel, named after the legendary and beloved Birmingham elephant who reigned as "queen" at the Avondale Zoo in the early 1900s. The have fun events and live music--check out the calendar!”

Point of Interest
“One half coffee shop/bar. One half live music venue. This is a great spot to catch a show. The bartenders are fantastic and can make excellent classic and craft cocktails. Come morning, the coffee shop, Domestique, has great hot and cold beverages. ”

Bar

“THE place to get a craft cocktail in Birmingham, featuring a periodic table (behind the bar) that is a spin-off on abbreviations for Birmingham's iconic businesses and restaurants. Unique experience as each of the mixologists are very capable of blending any type of drink you could be craving. You can order traditional drinks and they know exactly what to do, or you can let the bartender know what you like (flavors, liquors, etc) and they will custom craft something to your liking. Angel is our favorite bartender! Street parking can be annoying during peak times (7 pm onwards) so grab a spot as soon as you are .1-.2 miles away. ”

“Winner of the James Beard for Best Restaurant in 2018, Highlands Bar and Grill is a Birmingham classic. You'll need reservations to eat in the dining room, but that's not our favorite way to go --- it's a bit stuffy. We love to go to the bar, which is first come, first serve. If you go early or are willing to wait, you can get a seat at the bar or on one of the three side bar tables and enjoy the full menu. They have a wonderful raw bar too if you are in the mood for oysters. It's a splurge, but a fantastic date night. ”

“Large selection of beer and cocktails. This Morris Avenue staple has a great rooftop if it is a nice evening, and the bar food menu is really tasty. We even like going for lunch -- the salmon kale salad is delicious!”
