Gather your friends and family at Windrift Hall, a beautifully restored 1790s manor house in the Hudson Valley. Set back in time and space enjoy a weekend with 14 guests in absolute privacy. Surrounded by meadows, woods, gardens and your own swimming pond, you’ll find yourself a world apart, but in close vicinity to a village with all amenities. Easy accessible within 2h from NYC, 20min from Hudson’s train station and Albany’s airport follow us on Instagram @windrifthall for daily inspiration.
Windrift Hall is situation on top of a hill surrounded by 14 acres of nature. The historic house features 5 bedrooms, 2 baths, library, study, gracious center hall, living room and a beautiful country kitchen. The house is filled with an eclectic mix of art and antiques reflecting the origins of the European owners and their love for design and good craftsmanship. Every room has a wood burning fireplace and every window has unobstructed views of nature around you. While you're chopping vegetables in the kitchen you might see a blue heron landing gracefully on the pond or you can study the hawks circling in midair. Spring is a beautiful time to see the gardens and wild flowers come into bloom, in summer you might like to take your meals in the shadow of the 250 old maple tree and cool off with a swim in the spring fed pond. In fall there's a spectacular foliage on view right out of your bedroom window and winters are perfect for lounging in front of the fireplace after a run on the nearby slopes of Hunter or Wyndham. We're pet friendly and happy to host your friends, family, weddings and retreats. Our shaded 1200sf pavilion overlooking the private swimming pond is the perfect location for bigger gatherings or a yoga class. Please inquire about our separate regulations and prices for retreats, events and weddings. Please note we only host 12 weddings a year and space is limited, we’d love to take you on a tour of the property, please check our calendar for available weekends. To make your stay extra special please inquire about our daily cleaning service, a personal chef or embark on an inner journey with a yoga class, guided meditation, massages and so much more. Let a dedicated team help you to ease into the moment, so you can take your mind off your to do list, create space for new connections and allow yourself to just be. Think less and be more.
Conveniently located at the corner of Route 81 and 9W, you’ll find a supermarket, a gas station, a pharmacy, a pizza restaurant, a wine shop and a medical emergency center. Personally I love to shop at the Black Horse Farm on 9W towards Athens. They have a huge selection of fresh organic produce. While listening to the classic radio station, you can sample their delightful spreads of homemade products while browsing through the shop. Our 300sf spring fed pond is set in a dramatic natural setting and perfect for swimming, but if you feel like going to an outdoor swimming pool, there’s the Catskill Valley Pool in the nearby town of Athens. Are you a yogi? You will love our Manduka Pro-Lite mats and props. We're happy to recommend local teachers for an invigorating or restorative yoga class at the pond. You’re welcome to use the public tennis courts of Coxsackie or you might enjoy a round of mini-golf on 9W while trying one of the 26 delicious ice cream flavors served at Tom’s next door. If you feel like watching a movie we have a flat screen TV with a Netflix account or you might like to see the latest flic at the charming Drive-In Theatre on 9W. If you’re interested in historic places don’t miss out on a tour through the Broncks House and Museum. It’s in walking distance and one of the oldest houses in America. Our library has books about all the historic places in the Hudson Valley, Olana across the river at the Rip van Wrinkle Bridge or Clermont on 9E are just a few other beautiful mansions to visit within 1/2 hours drive. If you stay with us I’m sure you have a love for old and beautiful things. Our place is the best starting point for your antique treasure hunt. For antiquing around the corner we recommend the Coxsackie Antique Center on 9W showcasing the wares of 100 local dealers and across the river is the town of Hudson, famous for some of the most eclectic antique shops in the country. A stroll along picturesque Warren Street takes you to dozens of shops ranging from high-end stores with fine period pieces to unique little boutiques. There are also some nice restaurants. My personal favorites are the Swoon Kitchenbar and Crimson and Sparrow. Some of the best hikes are in the Catskills. You’ll find maps, hiking and walking guides as well as other information about Greene County in our library. Within 30min drive there are 2 great ski resorts in the town of Hunter and Wyndham. After a day on the slopes, you will really enjoy to snuggle up in front of one of the 5 working fireplaces in the house. The Owls Nest Cabin is ~ 2 hours from NYC yet just minutes to popular cities like Hudson/Catskill. An original Summer Kitchen circa 1840, it's been lovingly restored into a private 1 Bed/1Bath cabin with a claw foot tub, vintage kitchen, wood / brick walls and is outfitted with vintage furniture & antiques! Note: there are several historic barns and the original historically registered farmhouse on the 10 acre property, the cabin is situated on a country road adjacent to the farmhouse.
Wood and brick walls, along with all the vintage furniture add to the cozy feel. Easily turn on the Vermont Casting fireplace and you may be more in for a night of hanging out with a good book or magazine! A starter set of shampoo, conditioner and soap plush bath sheet towels complete the feeling of luxury as you enjoy soaking in our vintage clawfoot tub. When you are ready for bed it's a good nights rest with down pillows, duvet down comforter with cotton matelasse' coverlet and Egyptian cotton sheets. We'll supply a stock of tea/coffee that you can make to start off your day. Thinking of eloping or hosting a supper club or retreat? Contact us for details on our adjoining Air BnB properties for up to 30 guests! Take a virtual tour here: https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=paiwwrMKimR
Coxsackie is filled with history and gets it's name from the Native American Indian translation of 'Land of the Owls Hoot'. The cabin itself, along with the homestead, sit directly below the Kalkberg Indian Trail. Less than a mile away you can find the Bronck Home Museum and Gallery. In town you can find almost anything you need for your stay, with great restaurants like SoGo Sushi, Paul's Italian, Red's, Pegasus and Che’ Figata. Start out your day grabbing breakfast at the local it spot, Chrissy & Tim's Diner...and grab a great sub at Griffin's Market. In the historic Reed Street section of town you'll find period brownstones with great shops and favorites The General Store and The Yellow Deli. The Reed Street Bottle Shop boasts a great variety of wines and spirits and is a must see. Our local in town pub is the place to go any night, the Cask & Rasher has amazing food and a repertoire of IPA's that is pretty impressive. My favorite these days however is the Pear Cider, it's dangerous good! If you're a die hard beer lover you likely already know about our local fav's at Honey Hollow, google it to find out how to hang out with the owners and grab a growler...or two;-) In season you can head out to a movie at the local drive in just a few miles down the road where you can also hit up Blackhorse Farms and Barbara's Country Treasures, both are can't miss locations just minutes away and can supply gift items and then some. Feel like you need more? Athen's is just 15 minutes away and boasts a few great restaurants like The Crossroads, Rive Gauge and Bonfiglio & Bread. Just a few minutes more and you'll be in the city of Catskill, quickly becoming known for it's arts movement...you can find my favorite Thai food restaurant called Wasana's right on Main Street. Live music can be found at The New York Restaurant, which also boasts some great Polish dishes too and a fantastic bar that is hopping pretty much every night of the week. Hudson is Hudson...I need not say more;-) If you've not been to Warren Street it's only 20 minutes away and just over the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. Speaking of (URL HIDDEN) you are crossing the bridge take note of the historic landmark OLANA, Fredrick Church's Moorish inspired mansion that sits atop the mountain overlooking the Hudson River. On your trip 'back' it's worth pulling over the car at the park and walk area before the bridge and get out for a stroll on the Rip Van Winkle walking path to take in the breath taking views of the Catskill Mountain range! Up for a hike? Try Kaaterskill Falls. Is skiing on the agenda? Try Hunter or Ski Windham in NY or just over the border you can go to my favorite family friendly mountain at Jiminy Peak. If you haven't guessed by now there are MANY weekends of activities here you can enjoy...that is if you ever leave the cabin;-)

Enjoy a quiet respite from the city in this architect-designed tiny house overlooking a meadow, deep in the woods. Located on 20 acres of land with private trails and Catskill-mountain views, this bespoke cabin feels blissfully far away from everything, yet it’s only a 15-minute drive from vibrant city of Hudson, NY. Experience a peaceful off-the-grid retreat —complete with hand-crank Victrola. Time moves slower here. The sky is closer. The stars, brighter. Note: NO electricity. NO Running water
The setting is intimate, serene, secluded. Clerestory windows contribute to a sculptural play of light against gently angled, hand-plastered walls. Downstairs: A bold, vintage-inspired ceramic tile floor, a wood-burning stove, and a bay window with a window seat for long, lazy afternoons of reading. Upstairs: the loft bedroom features wide, white-washed pine floors, a comfortable full-size bed and hand-crafted cabinets. Savor the pleasures of camping, of being close to nature, while experiencing the comforts of an idiosyncratic, beautifully designed abode. The cabin is well insulated, thus stays cool in the summer and warms up quickly in the winter. The cabin comes with a supply of drinking water. Cooking can be done indoors, on the wood-burning stove, or outside, on the Weber grill. Plenty of firewood (walnut, harvested from the property) awaits you. An outhouse toilet is sited about 200 yards away from the cabin. There is NO electricity and NO running water. If there is snow the drive is not plowed so the cabin is only accessible by parking at the end of the driveway and hiking to the cabin. This is approximately a 400 yard walk in the snow so bring boots or snow shoes and wear a backpack to get your supplies to the cabin!
The Hudson River, and boat launch for canoes and kayaks, is just a 20-minute walk or 3 minute drive away. The Stockport Creek, a conservation area, is even closer. In the opposite direction are trails on hundreds of acres that are protected and owned by Scenic Hudson. Fishing: There are striped bass and large mouth bass under the Stockport Creek bridge and under the Amtrack bridge, where the Stockport Creek feeds into the Hudson River.

My house is a row house, on a street of 30 houses continuous with each other, built in 1860 for railroad workers. It is outside the village of Athens, through some woods, a short walk from the Hudson River. It is very quiet and peaceful, a perfect place for a single person or a couple to do a retreat away from busy lives. Perfect for an artist or writer. Open space with a lot of light.
There is a back yard that goes out into an alley that is next to woods. The downstairs of the house is very open and light, kitchen/dining room/living space. Bathroom has aglass shower stall. Bedroom has a double bed, desk, closet with drawers and shelves. Very comfortable.
My neighborhood is very unique. It is a designated historical street. The houses are beautiful and each one is a bit different. A short drive to a fantastic cafe and a brewery in Athens. Close shopping in Catskill and Coxsackie, 15 minute drive. 20 minute drive over the Rip Van Winkle Bridge to Hudson NY.

A newly renovated space about 7 minutes drive north of downtown Hudson. Close to everything the town has to offer, but surrounded by 10+ acres of beautiful woods, which makes for a nice escape from city life. The house is a short walk to a large nature preserve on the Hudson River. Secluded, quiet, and scenic in any season of the year. We were featured in Architectural Digest's "High Design Airbnb Rentals We'd Love to Call Home" - http://bit.ly/2NJrU5w
The guest house is newly renovated within the former attached garage. The design is inspired by our love of LA's Case Study houses. Warm hardwood floors, high ceilings, large windows, upgraded insulation, heat/air conditioning, and a fully equipped kitchen were added to convert the space into a comfortable studio apartment for visitors.
The house is close to downtown but surrounded by woods, which makes it feel much more like a secluded getaway. A short walk to a 700+ acre nature preserve on the Hudson River. At the end of a dead-end street of mid-century ranch homes. Deer and other wildlife frequent the yard. We have a fenced-in backyard great for dogs.

Rustle up recipes in a restored, 100%-authentic Art-Deco-era kitchen, complete with decorative antique stove. Sit out on the porch rocker and play the piano next to a gas-burning stove before drinks, round the campfire in the tree-lined garden. Take a stroll down to the end of the street and walk along the mighty Hudson river.
Of note: Antique stove not permitted for use. Two electric burners are available for your use. -Restroom located on 1st floor. Campfire: You will need to provide your own wood and keep the fire low (below the stone ring) as we are in a residential area. Our kitchen is 100% authentic Deco era, minus the vaulted ceiling. After being mistreated for many years, we put back all of the detail that had been taken. Each door, molding, appliance, piece of hardware was obsessed over. Our home still has a ways to go, needing an exterior painting and finishing in the closets. We have come very far, please overlook the few "To-Do-List" items. Enjoy!
Set on a residential street, this 1880s Queen Ann Victorian is a 20-minute drive from the Hudson NY Amtrak station and 2hrs 20min drive from NYC. Stroll in the park and launch boats into the Hudson river, right at the end of the street. Wander among timeless brick buildings, stopping off at coffee shops and restaurants.

This is a romantic and sensual open floor plan 2-bedroom apartment in a guesthouse on a 15 acre property. The lower apartment is another guest space that can be rented in conjunction, if so desired. This apartment has been designed in an eclectic style featuring vintage, antique and modern furniture and accessories. Enjoy a private back porch, access to a large lawn and a shared sunset-view platform! The guesthouse is set back from the road and has lovely western Catskill Mountain views.
The neighborhood is very rural with a horse farm, dairy farm and Samascott Orchards close by. The Hudson River is a beautiful bike-ride away and walks alongside the River evoke a pre-civilization landscape. For those seeking culture: Seven car minutes away from the farm you can visit the Jack Shainman Gallery in Kinderhook. The friendly village of Kinderhook offers quite a few historic mansions and old farm houses, like Martin van Buren's (8th President of the USA) "Lindenwald", the Van Alen House and the Vanderpoel House. Further away you find Olana, Clairmont and the Thomas Cole house. Historic Hudson is 20 minutes away and offers fine dining, galleries and vintage/antique shopping. Art Omi is in the vicinity as well with many culture and art events. Kinderhook has a Restaurant for foodies: "The Flammerie", with a "Biergarten" featuring Bavarian specialties among other things . And there is a lovely wine bar in an old townhouse called "Dyad". Down at the Hudson River is a Mexican restaurant called "Pico Di Gallo" with good food and friendly service. During the summer every Saturday morning you find a farmer's market in the main square of Kinderhook.

Welcome to the ideal home for your Athens retreat, built in 1885 and thoughtfully renovated over the past two years to include Nest-controlled central AC. Located a few short blocks away from Athens’ main stretch, 2nd Street, where you’ll find restaurants and a brew pub, and a short ferry ride or drive away from Hudson, you’ll be in the heart of everything the Hudson Valley has to offer.
Original refinished wood floors run through the entire home. With 3 bedrooms, it can sleep up to 6 and easily accommodates couples, adventurers, families with children and city dwellers who just want to get away and relax. All bedrooms are located upstairs offering privacy for guests. Downstairs features a sunny living room with Samsung TV and Amazon Fire Stick and a newly renovated kitchen with large farmhouse sink and brand new stainless steel appliances. Central heating and AC are controlled by Nest. The house has a back patio with outdoor dining, where guests can unwind, dine, and entertain freely in the warmer months. Private parking in the back of the house and street parking in front. Although the house is over 100 years old (built in the 1880's), it is outfitted with modern conveniences like a Schlage smart lock and Nest thermostat.
8 minutes walking to Athens' restaurants, including the famous Food Studio Athens as well as Crossroads Brewery and the Stewart House Hotel and bar. In the summer months enjoy the newly opened River Grill at the Stewart House Hotel, and the riverfront park from which ferries depart on Friday and Saturday evenings to Hudson's main drag. A ferry or drive to Hudson which features great shops and antiques stores, fabulous restaurants and a famous music scene (as illustrated by Rolling Stone magazine just last year!). Skiing, hiking, fishing, and secret swimming-holes are also close by. You are a stone's throw from both culture and outdoor activities. Short transit or drive to both the Berkshires and the Catskills. Other nearby attractions include a nature trail park at the Hudson waterfront just 5 minutes drive, the Olana state historic site, the Thomas Cole house, the Hudson-Chatham Winery, Old Chatham Sheepherding Co., Bard College, FASNY Firefighting museum, Clermont State Park and Spruce Ridge Alpaca Farm. Located on a large, private lake with sunset views and mountain backdrop, this unique home offers all comforts and amenities to guests. With an all-wood interior, vaulted ceilings, and a fireplace in both rooms this romantic retreat in the trees defines warmth and charm. This three level home, in addition to its bedroom and balcony, includes a large oval deck and a sleeping loft with window and skylight. You're sure to feel at home in this secluded country retreat. Ski slopes half hour away.
Surrounded by trees and natural beauty, west sunsets are seen thru large, glass doors from living room and bedroom - each with their own deck and balcony. A fireplace in both bedroom and living room add warmth and charm as you sit midway up in the tall pines. A row boat sits at the water's edge. This three level home has an all wood interior, wide pine plank floors throughout and high vaulted ceilings. A sleeping loft includes a window and skylight, ideal for a child or third person. The bathroom's sloped ceiling includes a skylight over a claw-footed tub sunk in Mexican paving tiles. Original art and objects along with turn of the century antiques add to the uniqueness of this very original home on the lake. Heat, air conditioning, Internet access and HDTV available. Beautiful in all seasons. Ideal trip at leaf turning time and wonderful for skiers to return to after skiing Hunter and Windham mountains - half hour away. Through renting my house with guests being introduced to the surrounding beauty, several former renters are now property owners with homes in Sleepy Hollow Lake. Located in the old Hudson River town of Athens - little has changed in over two hundred years. Many old, historic houses remain as they were. Both Athens and Coxsackie have charming parks sitting on the Hudson. They offer summer concerts and waterfront dining as the season permits. One steps back in time here and finds things still lovely, still fairly secret, as it nestles in the foothills of the Catskills known as the Hudson Valley.
This romantic retreat is located on a large private, exclusive lake spanning the towns of Athens and Coxsackie, two historic Hudson River towns.

Located between the Capital Region and Mid-Hudson Valley, Coxsackie offers unique access to events, cideries, breweries, antique shops, parks and places to hike. Seating area with WiFi and a lovely barrister! Che Figata: Standard Italian restaurant serving up hearty portions of fare. We love their caesar salad and pesto pastas. Leave the rest of the world behind in my private 12 acre ranch house with bucolic views. Quiet & peaceful. Spacious. Light filled. Picture window nature views. Berkshires sunrise and Catskills Sunset. Culinary equipped. Indoor deep soak tub. Star gazing fire pit. Heated swimming pool (May 15-September 25). Organic herb garden. Country roads leading you to Hudson (20 min away), Rhinebeck, Old Chatham, Catskills, Albany, Niagara Falls, NYC and more....
Hudson Valley extends 150 miles above the tip of Manhattan. Designated as a National Heritage Area, the valley is steeped in history, natural beauty, culture and a burgeoning food and farmer’s market scene. Among many attributes, it’s the oldest wine producing area in the country, and the magnificent scenery inspired artists whose works became the Hudson River School of Painters. Lonely Planet describes the Hudson River Valley as “a real city break, with leafy drives, wineries and plenty of farm-to-table foodie options.” National Geographic Traveler named the Hudson Valley one of the top 20 must-see destinations in the world. PLACES TO EXPLORE IN COLUMBIA COUNTY, NY A visit to Columbia County can be as relaxing or stimulating as one desires. There is culture, history, recreation, antiques and unique boutiques, farm markets and u-pick orchards; bike trails and even a zip line adventure park. For art lovers, galleries, studios and an open air sculpture garden showcasing artists’ works from around the world. The architectural masterpiece, Olana, the home of Hudson River School artist, Frederic Church, and the Martin Van Buren National Historic Site anchor Columbia County’s many heritage sites. Miles of country roads take you through expansive breathtaking vistas where one can leave the city behind and embrace the countryside either by car or bike. Along the way, stop and visit one of the many tasting rooms on the Artisanal Beverage Trail. Year round theater performances, concerts and seasonal summer stock musicals and dance offer entertainment for all ages. CATSKILLS Small towns in the Catskills may be connected by country roads, but they retain an individual character. They each have pride in their hamlet. Between these villages, you’ll find rustic-hip farmers making cider from New York’s famous apples, quaint curiosity shops, religious communes, and the spirit of the artisan at every turn. That isn’t to ignore the main reason people move here: the incredibly beautiful landscape. The Catskills are a small but beautiful mountain range that offers skiing, hiking, rafting, streamside campsites, and some of the country’s best fishing. There is no shortage of memorable restaurants and hotels, and the best of which display the excellent local products of the region. Each one of these tiny towns has a central business district to stroll. Some might be as simple as two storefronts, others are a few blocks long. They each capture the wild spirit of the mountains. In the Catskills, the Bohemian Ethos of the 1960s has aged well.

As private as you can find! At the end of a mile long wood road on 11 forested acres on the Poetic Creek. No houses in sight - or earshot. A charming 'Camping Cabin'. Please read ALL the description, so you know what to expect and what to bring. _________-________________ Update: We are discounting the cost of the cabin by 75% for a month or more to make it affordable, if you wish to be safe in a safe location for a while . For a week or more, we will consider a discount also. Ask.
…….The Cabin is insulated and has an airtight wood stove. There is a Murphy bed with a queen size mattress. It does not have indoor running water or electric [other than a small solar electric system described below] - that's what "camping cabin" refers to. The forest has lots of wildlife, deer, wild turkeys, foxes, raccoons, great horned owls, etc. ----------------------- ……..For cooking there is a 2 burner Coleman camp stove, and outside, a fireplace. Solar power: Solar electric panels on the roof charge a storage battery. It has a USB port for charging small electronics and operating a couple of CFL lamps. ........Fire wood update November 2019: In November we delivered 6 truckloads of seasoned firewood to the cabin. Some of that is in a pile near to the cabin and the rest is in the wood shed. We also cut and split some oak trees for future firewood. That green wood is NOT seasoned and will not be ready for use as firewood until about next June. It will barely burn at all until seassoned. Map attached. ……..Officially, it's the "Potic Creek" but one of our guests from Europe liked the location so much she named it Poetic Creek in her 2014 review. It is an idyllic getaway for those who appreciate nature. It is about 25 miles north of Woodstock; about 2 hour drive from the GWB. . . . . . When we started thinking about the possibility of sharing a cabin a decade ago, the question was, how can we do it? It is an hour and a half round trip from our home, so traveling to the cabin after every guest was not feasible. To make it work, we ask guests to bring their sleeping bags [or sheets and blankets] and towels, and “leave it as you found it.” We figured most guests who were interested in this type of retreat would be respectful of the next guest, and that has been true. We ask, if you cannot make a commitment to leave the cabin clean and tidy for the guest after you, and take with you any trash and empty water bottles, please don’t book a stay here. Once a month or so, we check out the cabin, restock supplies, and do any cleaning that’s needed. As in any cabin in the woods, mice do get in. If that would bother you, please don’t book a stay here. When we see evidence of them, we set traps and get rid of them, but before long they're back. …….Pets: Your dog is OK. Our two Yorkies love it there, we do not charge a pet fee. Due to past problems of guests with cat allergies, we do not accept cats. We do ask that if you bring your dog, that you do a thorough cleaning to remove hair and, that you not have your dog on the bed, unless you bring a sheet or blanket large enough to cover it. This is on the honor system, please respect other guests. …….At the cabin are plates, glasses, utensils, pots and pans, a French press coffee maker, T paper, paper towels, dish detergent, and candles, A Coleman 2 burner stove for cooking and spare propane canisters for it. Since it is an essential item, even though they are quite reliable, we keep a spare Coleman in the shed that has the porta potties. As it is camping, you will need sleeping bags, [there are a couple of quilts at the cabin so you could bring queen size sheets and pillowcases] and towels - and having a flashlight is a good idea, essential if you are arriving after dark. Bring what you would for any camping trip - matches, newspaper for starting the fire, and drinking water. In front of the cabin there’s a stone fire place and with a grill. We provide cut seasoned firewood. The firewood is provided for heating the cabin with the wood stove. Outdoors, only make a fire in the fire place in front of the cabin only, nowhere else. There is a small BBQ there. If you wish to use that, bring charcoal. ……. To repeat, please do not make outdoor fires other than in the outside fire place in front of the cabin. If you cook on the outside fireplace grill, it's best to split firewood to 1 1/2 to 3 inch diameter. Smaller sized firewood burns hotter and more quickly get to embers good for cooking. There is a maul [splitting ax] at the cabin. …….Bringing newspaper and matches for fire starting. There is an excellent, efficient Napoleon airtight wood stove for heating. It has a glass front door, so you can watch the fire burning. We will send instructions in case you are not familiar with the use of airtight wood stoves. Safety note: Do NOT use fire starting fluid in the wood stove, it is dangerous and can damage the stove. . . . . There is a small shed with 2 porta potties about 100 feet from the cabin. . . . . THE ROAD: The wood road in is a mile long. It’s a bit rough, but not a problem to drive in as far as the parking spot for the cabin. [We can drive in in our Prius, which is quite low to the ground, but do need to drive slowly in a few places]. Over the years, two guests [out of a few hundred] have told us they felt the road too rough. The parking spot is 250 feet from the cabin. The road from the parking area to the cabin is rough and steep, so without 4 wheel drive with good ground clearance, walk this last part. …….ROAD IN WINTER: Heavy snow would prevent you from staying at the cabin, and in that case we give a full refund or a rain check, at your option. With any snow, you will need to park at the parking area and walk the last 250 feet to the cabin. For more than an inch or two, 4 wheel drive is needed. If there is significant snow, it’s a good idea to have a shovel. ……..HEAT: The woodstove is efficient and heats the cabin well. Firewood is provided. We have been there when outside temperature was 20 degrees and been fine. ……..Water: The water from the river – and any surface water – would have bacteria and not be suitable for drinking unless purified. If the water is purified, it is potable. We provide a few ways to purify the water, but even so, we recommend bringing some drinking water. We have at the cabin a “Steripen,” which is an ultraviolet water purifier that will purify a liter in 90 seconds. As a backup to the UV purifier, there are “Aquatabs” -- tablets that purify a liter in a half an hour. Bringing water to a boil will also kill any bacteria. …….Toilet facilities:. There is a porta potty in a nearby shed. …….CELL PHONE SERVICE: We sometimes get service on our cell phones there – IT DEPENDS ON YOUR PROVIDER. We have ATT and Cricket. Reception is intermittent and weak, so often we have to walk up the hill to the parking area to get service. ……In addition to the queen bed in the bedroom, there is a queen size air bed. There is a foot operated air pump. ……..If you note that any essentials are getting low, please let us know so we can re-stock them. We can’t guarantee all are in stock, so bring essentials. ……. We have installed a timer on the lighting circuit at the cabin. This is to prevent the problem some guests have caused by leaving the lights on when they leave and draining the battery. So you will now see a timer mounted next to the solar control panel and storage battery. By turning the knob clockwise, it turns the lights on for up to an hour. A small inconvenience, perhaps, but better than having a guest come and find no electric. …….After you book the cabin, we will email maps, instructions, a primer on starting campfires, key information, etc. Best to print them out and take them with you. If they don't arrive by email within a couple hours of booking, please let us know. …….To reiterate: If you wish to stay in this cabin, please be prepared to leave it clean and take away your trash. We cannot travel there between every guest's visit. We can only re-stock and clean it periodically, if you are not prepared to do housekeeping at the end of your stay, please don't book it. Since once or twice a year, a guest doesn’t clean up or take their trash with them, if that should happen, we ask that you deal with the issue and send us a bill, we will reimburse you for your time. If the possibility of coming to a cabin that the last guest has not cleaned ……..Thank you. Andrew Peck and Chloe Dresser ……. Texting AND emailing to BOTH of us is the best way to reach one of us if you have a question. We live in a remote cabin where phone reception is only occasional, but texts and emails reach us. ……... 2018 Update: …….Mice are a fact of life in a country cabin. Periodically, we set traps and get rid of them, but soon enough, more get in. If seeing a mouse or their droppings, would bother you, the cabin is not for you. . …….A guest sent us a favorable review a couple of years ago, which we copy here, not to toot our own horn, but because it serves to reiterate and emphasize some points that prospective guests should not overlook: ______________________________________ “This cabin is the perfect get away from the hustle of the city. The rustic cabin is totally secluded and right next to a small creek. There is . . . a queen bed, two chairs, and a wood stove. The bed is open to the kitchen and living room. There is a large dining table, two burner stove, and sink. There are plenty of pots and pans, a few glasses, and a few utensils. There is a cooler to keep things chilled. There is a large screened in porch that overlooks the creek. . . . There is an outhouse [outhouse changed to a porta potty in 2018] several yards from the house. Toilet paper, paper towels, candles, hand soap, and detergent is provided. Firewood was also provided and very much appreciated. The wood stove keeps you very warm in the house, and there is also a fire pit in front of the cabin. The solar power provides enough power to light the cabin in the evenings and keep your cell phone charged. Bring your own pillows, bedding, and towels. NOTE- The cabin is at the bottom of a steep hill. You must have a 4-wheel drive or you will not be able to get back up the hill. Park your car at the top of the hill and walk down. There is an honor system when it comes to cleaning the cabin. Make sure and leave the cabin clean and inviting for the next guests. Let the owner know if things need to be restocked. Catskill is less than 10 miles away and has a nice grocery store, Wal-Mart, and plenty of restaurants. Happy Camping!!!” .---------------------------------------------------------------- ……..The property is owned by Dresser Properties LLC. Your hosts are Chloe Dresser and Andrew Peck
We love that it is so remote and private, at the very end of a mile long wood road. If there's snow, it won't be plowed, you would need a four wheel drive to reach it in the snow. If you book it and there's snow so you can't reasonably drive in, we will give a rain check [snow check?] or a full refund - your choice. The road is passable by all but very low to the ground cars, except for the last 300 feet to the cabin which is steep, and should not be driven down unless you have four wheel drive. Before that steep part, there is a parking area.
