“This place can be very busy. If you love tranquillity, then stay away. But if you are looking for the most genuine Havana's culture and vibe, then do not miss out. It has been very famous, since its foundation, for the Cuban typical dishes, i.e. black beans, fried pork chunks and fried banana. Ernest Hemingway made it popular for becoming a frequent client and a lover of the Mojito cocktail they offer.”

“Only in Havana! The entrance to the city's most legendary private restaurant greets you like a scene out of a 1940s film noir. A decapitated statue at the bottom of a grand but dilapidated staircase leads up past lines of drying clothes to a wooden door, behind which lie multiple culinary surprises. La Guarida's lofty reputation was first fermented in the 1990s when it was used as a location for the Oscar-nominated film Fresa y Chocolate. Not surprisingly, the food is still up there with Havana's best, shoehorning its pioneering brand of Nueva Cocina Cubana into dishes such as rabbit pâté and oxtail risotto. Reservations recommended.”

“In my opinion the best place to eat in Havana. The food is of excellent quality, a wide wine selection, the service is efficient and you really get value for money. It's located opposite the Capitol. It will take you 15 to 20 minutes to walk from our place. You don't need to book so far ahead. Usually there's a little queue at the entrance. You'll be in after 15 to 20 minutes. But if you're definitely queue-impatient, then book on-line. Use the website shown. Note there are steep stairs to go up to the first floor. If you can't handle it, then rather visit D'Lirios, which is on the ground floor and also on this guidebook.”

“Keep it simple. The secret at Doña Eutimia is that there is no secret. Just serve decent-sized portions of incredibly tasty Cuban food. The ropa vieja – shredded beef – and minced beef picadillo both deserve mentions. Doña Eutimia was the first private restaurant to grace this small cul-de-sac near the cathedral. Now, there are at least five other restaurants and a rugby scrum of jineteros (hustlers) trying to lure you in (avoid them and you'll save money). ”

“El Cocinero is just as much about the Havana art scene as it is about food.  The restaurant makes use of half of a 100-year-old, and long abandoned, cooking oil factory along the Almendares River, between the Vedado and Miramar neighborhoods. The factorys landmark 200-foot-tall red brick chimney is now home to a spiral staircase that ascends to an intimate dining room.  Subtle lighting, black and white photography, and smooth jazz over a Bose sound system to set the mood.  ”

“Only 10 minutes away by car is the best cabaret of the Caribbean .. El Tropicana is a cabaret in Havana, Cuba. It was launched on December 30, 1939 at the Villa Mina in Marianao and next door to El Colegio de Belen where Fidel Castro went to school. The Tropicana Cabaret is located in a lush, tropical garden six-acre estate.”

“Probably one of the most famous bar-restaurants in Old Havana. You'll be delighted with traditional music, delicious food, great mojitos and very smart prices. The staff is friendly and polite. If you go after 20:00 pm, you will have to wait about 30 minutes in a queue before you get a seat. Also consider it if you don't like crowded places. It's located 1,2 km from our place and 15 minutes to walk.”

“A decidedly un-Cuban venue in Havana, Santy is an open-air, palatial Mediterranean/sushi restaurant on the docks of the Rio Jaimanitas. It’s technically “hidden” (if you don’t look up the address on Google Maps, that is) but that doesn’t mean the house isn’t packed with tourists and locals alike any given evening. Don’t expect VIP service here: it’s quick and laid-back. Who hasn’t dreamed of munching California rolls 3ft away from Cuban boats and fishermen?”
