My place is close to great views. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). The cottage is on 3.5 acres of grounds and a minute stroll down the laneway will bring you to Ballycurrin Lighthouse and Lough Corrib. On the grounds is the ruin of Lynch's Castle which dates from the 12th century and Ballycurrin House, which is right beside the cottage was built in 1760. The area is full of history and beauty and is a peaceful and relaxing place to visit and enjoy.
Ballycurrin Cottage is a cut stone building with lovely wood floors in the bedrooms and views of the lake. The ground floor is open plan with the fireplace as the central feature.
Ballycurrin is full of history and Oscar Wilde's father, William, has it mentioned in the book he wrote about the Corrib in 1867. A short stoll from the cottage brings you to Ballycurrin Lighthouse and the Lough Corrib where you can swim and fish. The Corrib is well known for fishing and it's possible to rent a boat with a Gillie (professional fisherman) for around €120 for a few hours. There are many laneways in the area to explore if you like walking and Ashford Castle and the village of Cong are nearby. Connemara is on the other side of the lake and it's not very far to drive.

Plum Cottage is a traditional, thatched cottage right on the shores of Lough Corrib. The cottage garden has lovely views to the lake and Keekill peer is in short walking distance for fishing or kayaking enthusiasts. The cottage is a vernacular building and is over 200 years old with many of its traditional features still intact. It has been restored recently and is fitted with oil central heating and a cozy solid fuel stove. The nearest town is Headford and it is close to Galway and Conamara.
Plum Cottage is a traditional cottage with thick stone walls, a reed thatched roof and a traditional half door. It was built around 1790 and still boast many of the old features lovingly restored with central heating and a modern bathroom. As is common with vernacular buildings, the floor to ceiling height is rather low in some of the rooms. The upstairs loft bedroom is accessed via steep stairs and a low door and would not be suitable for small children or adults with restricted mobility. Given the nature of the cottage some fire safety rules apply to all guests: NO smoking and NO BBQ s or open fires in the cottage gardens! Plum Cottage garden is also home to my cat family. Although the cats are not allowed inside the cottage, this accommodation would not suit people with a cat allergy or who are afraid of cats.
Plum Cottage is located on a quiet cul-de-sac right on the shores of Lough Corrib. Kayaking and fishing trips can be organised locally. The nearest town is Headford (6km) with shops, pharmacies and pubs. Campbell's tavern at the end of the road is particularly famous for it's live music with weekly traditional music sessions, blue grass and live bands on weekends. Lough Corrib itself is a nature and wild life paradise which will delight nature and bird-watching enthusiasts. Plum Cottage garden is a registered site with the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan on https://pollinators.biodiversityireland.ie/. The gardens are a designated sanctuary for bees and butterflies with a myriad of flowering trees, bushes, herb gardens and wild flowers. Round-up and other such nonsense is strictly banned. Nettles, dandelions, daisies and other 'weeds' are encouraged. You are welcome to use the gardens and you can borrow a hammock to swing under the plum trees.

    Marie2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ett vackert hem, i en underbar miljö. Finola svarade mycket snabbt på alla frågor. En fantastisk vistelse!

    Nat2019-12-30T00:00:00Z

    Mary2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Vi älskade vår vistelse! Stor gästfrihet och vackert hem. Vår son älskade den vänliga hästen. Rekommenderas starkt.
