Ta sig runt i Lissabon

Busshållplats
“Every world-class city has one—a shopping area who’s name alone is recognized for haute couture, high-end jeans and fine fragrances. Rodeo Drive. Fifth Avenue. Mayfair. Champs-Elysees. Ginza. Lisbon’s Avenida da Liberdade certainly deserves to join the list.”

“Chiado is an elegant and bohemian neighborhood in Lisbon, between Bairro Alto and Baixa Pombalina. It is frequently compared to Paris’ Montmartre district, rebuilt after it was destroyed by a fire in 1998. The most famous streets are Rua do Carmo, which houses the ruins of a church by the same name and Rua Garrett, in the centre of Chiado. The square and its surrounding streets are full of famous cafés, theatres and museums. ”

“Probably one of, if not my favourite neighbourhood of central Lisbon. Slightly removed from the main drag but still in the middle of it all. Great restaurant and array of shops surrounding the main garden square and just of it. Go and explore and immerse yourself in the area around it. Just naming a few places such as: Embaixada, Casa Pau-Brasil, Cevicheria, Pavilhão Chines, Tapisco, Memmo, 2 quiosques on the square, etc etc, etc!”

“Belém is known as the historic district of the Age of Discovery. It was from its waterfront that Vasco da Gama and other explorers departed for their voyages, events celebrated today by grand monuments and museums in the neighborhood. The sensational architecture of the Tower of Belem and Jeronimos Monastery (both World Heritage Sites) is the result of the discovery of the sea route to India, the opening of trade with Japan, and the colonization of Brazil and parts of Africa and Asia. These monuments are adorned and embellished with motifs of exotic lands elaborately carved in stone, as are the heroes of the age on the colossal Discoveries Monument. ”
