Nestled on the edge of the beautiful and secluded Swan Bay area of Corner Inlet, is 'Grantara', a split level, 2 storey home with uninterrupted distant views from the elevated deck to Barry Beach and the Prom. Truly a fisherman's delight!
A beach themed, split level/2 storey, 3 bedroom home on a 5 acre property in tranquil surrounds, on a no-through road, fronting Corner Inlet. (Home had a large under house area too). The master bedroom has a queen sized bed, a single bed and a single mattress underneath the main bed. 2 lamps on side tables, a corner TV cabinet with old T.V. used for dvds only, Celing fan, Built in robe with fold up cot, ironing board, iron, spare blankets/pillows, mobile heater and vacuum cleaner. The second bedroom has a double bed, side table, lamp, chair, ceiling fan, BIR with mobile heater and spare doona/pillows. The 3rd bedroom has 1 queen bed, 1 bunk bed, ceiling fan, BIR with mobile heater, spare doonas and there is a double sofa bed in the lounge. There is a split system air conditioner(hot/cold) in lounge and a slow combustion wood heater in the living area (but unless you are experienced with these, we recommend not to use it as we don't supply firewood. There is a flat screen TV (no remote control though) please use side controls on RH edge of TV and a DVD player in the lounge, (plus a DVD player in the master bedroom) and an assortment of DVDs for our guests' viewing pleasure and a few board games too! (Or hire DVDs from the Toora BP Service Station). There is an IXL tastic light/heat/fan in the bathroom (Shower with glass door over full sized bath), corner vanity with cupboards and 2 sets of drawers. Hair dryer and selection of soaps/shampoos etc. A well appointed, compact kitchen with 60cm Bosch electric oven and Ceran hotplates; a microwave oven, mid sized refrigerator with freezer compartment, solar-assisted large capacity electric hot water service (with boost option so you don't run out of hot water!) There is a large washing machine, dryer, vacuum cleaner, ironing board and iron. (Just need to BYO towels and bed linen or sleeping bags (we've left fitted sheets over the beds; just put your sheets over the top.- We also have some pillows spare blankets etc.) There's some soap and shampoo, toilet roll, serviettes, cleaning products, dish cloths, tea- towels, tea, coffee, sugar, salt & pepper, cooking spray, etc. to get you started and crockery, cutlery, pots & pans etc. for you to use too. :) Where the home is situated is truly a fisherman's paradise! The sea actually comes right to the sea wall at high tide (the sea wall has pampas grass planted along the edge and the mangrove trees grow on the sea floor - they have just grown quite high!) To access the sea reserve, walk down the paddock to the gate at the left hand side of the property to access the sea reserve area (please close gates behind you). You will need to cross the small creek to the sea wall and you can fish among the mangroves in the shallows at high tide where fish breed and are in abundance - or at low tide, explore the silt flats and watch them come alive with little crabs scurrying around! (You can also access the sea wall from the end of Bucklands Road; (opposite the Water Treatment Plant). You can also take a leisurely stroll along the nearby 'Great Southern Rail Trail' into town (about a 15 minute walk). There is a covered, heated pool within walking distance, parks, playgrounds, shops and eateries or in the opposite direction, towards Agnes and Welshpool (which is a country walk through farmland - with nice water views of Corner Inlet). A must see is the Toora lookout which is only about 2km from Grantara (1km off the South Gippsland Highway) to appreciate the breathtaking views of the inlet. Also visit the Toora Wind Farm which is just around the corner from the lookout and see the majestic wind turbines close up! You can launch your boat at many locations along the coast to access the picturesque waters of Corner Inlet and beyond to Bass Strait (and there is ample parking for your boat and vehicles at Grantara). The Toora Boat Ramp is a 5 minute drive from 'Grantara' - (which you can just see in the distance from the balcony) but launching of larger crafts is subject to tides. There is a wetlands area adjacent with boardwalks, a bird hide/information hut and a small beach area out from the mangroves (at low tide). Port Welshpool Boat Ramp is an all-tide launching area and is only about a 10 minute drive from 'Grantara' further along the South Gippsland Highway heading towards Yarram - (turn right at Welshpool township) which is a lovely fishing village with a sheltered beach and recently restored Long Jetty. There are various other launching locations along the coastline; Port Albert (Lovely historic port); Wilson's Promontory; Waratah beach; Walkerville and on the way to Venus Bay - just to name a few.
Toora is a peaceful, historic little town with some beautiful heritage buildings. (You can download (online) the 'Toora Times' which is a Community Newspaper to let you know current events and business contacts). Some of the businesses include a small but well stocked Foodworks supermarket, Pharmacy, Medical Centre, Hardware store, Bendigo Bank, Hairdressers and Massage Therapist. There are several cute and quirky specialty and Antique Shops and Cafes, Takeaway Shops, Restaurants and good old fashioned pub! (the Historic Royal Standard Hotel). There is also a Police station, Churches, Primary School, Kinder, Children's Playgrounds, Public Swimming Pool, Wetlands park at Toora Boat Ramp, (with board walks and bird hides for bird watching), a Tourist Park and Service Station which doubles as movie hire, fishing tackle and general store! For anything else, it's only a 10 minute drive to the township of Foster which has everything else you could need (and more cute, quirky shops and a hospital). The larger town of Leongatha is only another 20 minutes drive on from there. Toora is noted for it's breathtakingly scenic landscapes, it's majestic wind turbines and close proximity to tourist destinations such as Wilson's Promontory, Waratah Beach, the picturesque Agnes Falls (Cool climate rainforest water falls); Tarra Valley; Port Franklin; Port Welshpool, (a cute, and at times, bustling fishing village) which has a safe, sandy beach in a sheltered little cove with children's playground, picnic tables, fish & chip shop (general store), pub and maritime museum as well as the historic Long Jetty (currently being restored). There is also Port Albert, another fishing port situated further along the South Gippsland Highway towards Lakes Entrance and the 90 Mile Beach with wonderful history where you can charter a boat or visit the museum and take in the pretty surroundings and historic buildings. In the other direction, the gateway to Wilson's Promontory is approximately 25 minutes drive from 'Grantara' and you can literally spend hours exploring the Prom! Also about 20 mins drive from 'Grantara' is Shallow Inlet, Waratah Beach Surf Life Saving Club at Sandy Point and Waratah Bay. Further on is Walkerville a sheltered, rugged, rocky, cliff type beach which looks back towards the Prom. The area certainly has some of the loveliest and most scenic beaches on the coast; (Waratah Bay being our children's favourite!- It has an expansive, sandy beach which is shallow for a very long way out to sea with lots of waves! :) Search online to print a copy of the local Toora Times which is an up-to-date reference of current events and happenings around the district and local business contact details. If you search Youtube for 'Grantara Bayside Holiday Home' you can see drone videos of Corner Inlet, Toora Wind Farm and Agnes Falls. (Links disallowed on the airbnb site). A few things to do around the area and useful information: *Grantara is a 5 acre property which actually fronts on to the sea wall of Corner Inlet and Swan Bay. If you look out from the deck, you’ll see the sea wall with bare patches and pampass grass growing on it. Beyond that are the mangroves which now grow on what were once sandy beaches and boats were moored there. (Only about 50 years ago). Soil washed down into the sea providing perfect conditions for the mangroves to grow. They are the southern most type of mangrove to grow in the world and are now protected. They have grown quite tall and it is hard to imagine that they are actually growing on the sea floor! They make a safe haven for fish to breed and hide from predators. At low tide, the silt flats of the sea floor come alive with little crabs which scurry about. At high tide, the sea water comes right up to the sea wall. You are welcome to explore this area. There is a gate on the left of our property but you need to cross the drainage creek (which also has fish in it!) to access the sea reserve. (There are less wide spots to cross if you walk along to the right but we plan to put a bridge across eventually for easier access!) Please ensure that you close any gates behind you. *Toora Lookout 1km off the South Gippsland Highway towards the wind farm. A ‘must-see’ to really appreciate Corner inlet, Wilson’s Promontory and the Toora area. *The Toora Wind farm – a little further up the road from the Lookout. *Toora Rail Trail – a short work from Grantara which goes through to Toora, Foster- Leongatha and beyond in a Westerly direction and to Agnes and Welshpool in the Easterly direction (and upgrading to extend beyond Welshpool too!) *Toora Heated Public Swimming Pool -14 Cunningham St, Toora Ph:(03) 5686 2296 Hours: 10am–5pm during summer months (can walk there via the rail trail or a 2 minute drive). *Agnes Falls – Hazel Park Road (off Silcocks Hill Rd, Toora) Follow signs to see these magnificent and rugged waterfalls. (Google search 'Agnes Falls, Corner Inlet and ‘Grantara’ on Youtube and see some videos that one of our guests took with his drone video camera!) *Toora Boat Ramp, Wetlands and Beach- Jetty Road. (5 min drive from Grantara). *Other beach options: Waratah Beach (lovely, safe, sandy beach approx. a 20 minute drive from 'Grantara') Sandy Point, Shallow Inlet, Walkerville, Cape Lip Trap. Visit Cape LipTrap Light house and marvel at the stunning scenery. *Explore Wilson’s Promontory –Drive to Foster then follow the signs to the gateway to the ‘Prom’ (also approx. 20 mins). From there, you can spend hours exploring pristine beaches, wonderful scenery, Tidal River, Mt Oberon etc. *Port Welshpool – Port Welshpool Rd, Port Welshpool. Turn right out of Buckland’s Rd along the South Gippsland Hwy to Welshpool, then turn right into Port Welshpool Rd. You’ll find a quaint, historic fishing port and boat harbour with an all-tide boat ramp, a sheltered beach, a museum, pub & general store only about a 10 minute drive. *Foster Farmer’s Market –Every 3rd Saturday of the month, Main St. Foster. *Promontory Home Produce & Craft Special Sunday Markets at Foster Showgrounds. - Australia Day Weekend, Labour Day Weekend, Easter weekend, Cup Weekend and a couple of Sundays in December. More than 200 stalls of home produce, arts and crafts, plants, food stalls and train rides for the kids. The market raises funds for the Foster Rotary Club, Fish Creek JC's and Toora Lions Club. *Vintage Luxe – 27 Victoria St, Toora. Old wares and old ‘wears’ with a splash of new - clothing and curios! As well as a variety of other curiosity shops in the Main St. Toora. There is a dedicated Tourist Information Centre in Foster which can help you explore all the wonders of the South Gippsland Region!

Tarkira Tree Rainforest Retreat is a modern and simple gallery apartment filled with huge original artworks on wall and canvas, by established Australian artist William Holt. Bordering the pristine rainforest of the Tarra Bulga National Park, the retreat is surrounded by natural beauty. Walk to crystal rivers, waterfalls, fern forest and lush meadow. Come for a simple holiday or enjoy healing sessions during your stay such as reiki, lomilomi and other modalities.
The gallery style retreat house, on the edge of the pristine rainforest, is the perfect place to escape to. It offers both comfort and beauty, is filled with original artwork and surrounded by nature’s tranquility. The second bedroom has two king single beds, which can be used to sleep two people. However, they are designed to stand side by side to form a large queen size bed for a couple. They make a comfortable and stable bed in this position, however, you can tell that there is a join, unlike a mattress which is manufactured in one entire piece. Although we run healing retreats at Tarkira Tree you are perfectly welcome to book straight accommodation with no sessions of any kind. If you are interested in the meditation/healing retreats, just contact me with your inquiry. But, briefly, we specialise in offering truly affordable healing retreats. For $330 per night you can stay in the lovely accommodation and receive 3 private healing sessions with your facilitator, Nullani - one of meditation, one of reiki, and one of counselling/transformation/healing of a particular issue. USEFUL THINGS TO KNOW - IMPORTANT NOTE: THERE IS NO MOBILE PHONE RECEPTION IN THE VALLEY, AND ONLY LIMITED SATELLITE WI-FI. If you need to make a phone call you are welcome to use the landline phone in the main house near your retreat house. Important to note - The Gallery Retreat is set on 2 acres of permaculture/wilderness style gardens. This style of gardening is very different to ordinary gardening and is meant to look natural and wild and to be a haven for birds, insects and wildlife. However, to many this approach looks messy and unnattractive. Hopefully this information helps guests to feel informed and make decisions that suit their own aesthetics. FOOD, RESTAURANTS AND CAFES Yarram is the nearest town to Tarkira Tree. It is a very pretty 20 min drive, mostly through the valley. Yarram has a major supermarket for all your food shopping needs. If you turn at the BP service station which is on the main road you will see the supermarket almost immediately. Yarram has a pub called the The Glasshouse, which is on the main road. It has decent pub meals that are quite nice. There is also a chinese restaurant, also on the main street, which similarly has quite nice/reasonably delicious meals. Yarram has a nice bakery for lunches and also a genuinely delicious café for lunches. The café is on the main road, opposite the BP service station, and is called The Federal Coffee Palace. There is also a café for lunches, at the Tarra Bulga Guest House, which is in the actual forest, at Balook, a 15 min drive away. For stylish and awesome dining, there are two options that may be available, depending on the season. Tom's Cap winery, a 35 min drive away, and open for lunch fri, sat, sun, is delicious, scenic and gorgeous. Wildfish, a 35 min drive to the coast at Port Albert, has delicious seafood meals in a stylish restaurant on the water. The local caravan park, Fernholme, is a gentle 10 minute walk away and serves delicious coffees, scones, toasted sandwiches etc. SALT/PEPPER ETC....... In your retreat house you will find salt, pepper, vegetable oil, tea bags, herbal tea bags, coffee supplies and sugar. Your accommodation has a DVD player and a selection of DVD's, and an ipod compatible CD player.
Adjoining the pristine rainforest of Tarra Bulga National Park, Tarkira Tree Rainforest Retreat is the perfect escape. Take time to explore mystical tree ferns, towering mountain ash and ancient myrtle beech. Take short magical walks or set off for a longer hike. See wombats, wallabies, koalas and lyrebirds. Breathe in the stunning and untouched beauty of the forest. Fall asleep to the lyrical, soothing sound of the Tarra River. Stroll through the picturesque loveliness of the Tarra Valley. See lush, semi- forested farmland, mountain ash, emerald pasture, waterfalls, rocky cliff faces and the stunningly pretty Tarra River. Relax in the large permaculture gardens, with berries, roses, herbs and fruit tress. Explore Gippsland's nearby beaches, and the famous 90 mile beach, a pristine coastal wilderness. Rest, and renew your spirit, with natural therapies to make you feel blissful and relaxed. Take the time for an individual or group retreat. In the peace of the forest setting, experience deep meditation, relaxation and nurturing. Engage in strongly transformational processes to help you connect or reconnect, with who you really are. Learn how to release past emotion and false beliefs. Be supported to heal and awaken the Self . Work on painful or difficult issues like anxiety and depression. Bring your partner, child or friend, and work on healing your relationship and bringing more conscious awareness to it. Join in a group retreat, focussing on silence, mindfulness, compassion, kindness, transformation or inquiry.

The Yurt, at Tarkira Tree, is a simple, beautiful and comfortable one-room space set amongst permaculture gardens, next to the pristine rainforest of Tarra Bulga National Park. Take a true break, in breathtaking wilderness. As well as straight accommodation we offer healing reatreats.

However, to many it just looks messy and unnattractive. Hopefully this information will help potential guests make choices according to their own aesthetics. USEFUL INFORMATION There are not separate bedrooms. In the open plan living space there is a comfy queen size bed and a very comfy single bed which is also used as a couch. Cooking facilities are extremely simple. The bench has a sink, a small bar fridge, an electric hotplate, sandwich toaster, ordinary toaster, pots and pans etc. PLEASE NOTE : THERE IS NO MOBILE PHONE RECEPTION IN THE VALLEY and only limited satellite wi-fi. However, it is close to the main residence and is joined by the extensive decking around the main house. THERAPIES/RETREATS - If you are interested in any healing/counselling sessions, please inquire. I offer reiki, lomilomi, meditation and counselling/transformation sessions using breathwork and inquiry. The Tarra Valley is stunningly lush, semi-forested farmland, with the gorgeous Tarra River running through it. And we are right next to the pristine rainforest of the Tarra Bulga National Park, full of tree ferns and towering mountain ash. We are 35 minutes from the beginning of 90 mile beach.

The extraordinarily wide beach has fine golden sand, no rocks, and (usually) a gentle surf. Nearby Shallow Inlet provides fishing, wind-surfing, and other water sports. Vehicles can drive onto the beach at Shallow Inlet to launch boats or view Wilsons Prom.

Nestled on 5 acres of temperate rain forest is this fully self-contained, cosy bungalow suitable for a couple looking for a romantic retreat or someone flying solo who wants to escape the rat race. It is ‘off the grid’ yet enjoys all the mod cons including Netflix, Spotify, heating and cooling. It features an array of wildlife including resident parrots of all persuasions, a goanna, wombats, wallabies, kangaroos and lyrebirds. The bungalow is a discreet distance from Anne and Wayne’s home.
The bungalow is conveniently located only 20 minutes’ drive from Agnes Falls, Tarra Bulga National Park, the historic towns of Port Albert, Yarram and a variety of stunning beaches. Wilson's Prom is a great place to go for a day trip. The property is owned by Anne and Wayne Tindall. Your host Anne used to own the Bull Bar and Gallery in Yarram and highly recommends the new owners. Great food, live music and local wines and beers every Thursday, Friday and Saturday 4pm till late. Wayne is a practising artist and can be found in his studio on the property, most days.
There are no neighbours apart from a farmer across the road who lives (hidden) up a very long driveway. The occasional vehicle passes down the road from time to time. It is extremely quiet.

Port Albert (Historic Fishing Village) Lovely Cafes in Foster and Yarram Great Fishing and Swimming Wildlife galore Lovely Walkways and Tramping options Historic Museums NOTE: All you will need is your own Linen, towels and toiletries etc and due to the budget rates in a lovely holiday home you are asked to PLEASE CLEAN ON DEPARTURE for the next "relaxees" we know those that book will... as we trust people appreciate the price we offer to make it affordable for all to stay..THANKS HEAPS :) PETS: Also please note we do not allow pets after three VERY bad experiences. We used to welcome the family pet as we have animals ourselves, but many dollars later with repairs we have had to make due to irresponsible people we have now changed our policy - apologies to all the responsible pet owners out there. WELCOME TO PORT WELSHPOOL -VICTORIAS SECRET A LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN The Port and surrounds Port Welshpool is a lovely drive of about 90 minutes from Cranbourne once you hit the Sth Gippsland Highway and is in an undiscovered "peaceful paradise" just a short drive from beautiful and unspoilt Wilsons Prom. We own our lovely "home away from home" (well the bank does) and instead of tenanting it we decided to share our little paradise with likeminded people who will enjoy this lovely area as much as we do. "The Port" is a very historic part of Victoria and has an all weather/ all tide boat ramp (1 minute drive from the house) with great fishing from the jetty or the wharf and also very safe swimming and paddling from the lovely sandy beach. The Port is also the entrance to the Prom either by boat or by a short drive so you can explore at will or just relax and there are also MANY other beautiful attractions in the area. There is a great General Store which has all your needs or supermarkets 20 minutes away in Foster or Yarram. Fishing is hugely popular in the area. Wilsons Promontory National Park and the islands of Corner Inlet can be reached by launch or sailboat from the port. There is a launching ramp and boats can be hired locally. Hog deer, an endangered species in their native Asia, have been introduced into a State game reserve on Snake Island, in order to bolster their numbers. The Port Welshpool Museum, open daily, features marine displays and an unusual assortment of maritime curios. The house, built in 1881, was one of the first substantial dwellings to be constructed at Port Welshpool. The builder, J. Avery, had to walk 21 miles from Port Albert every Monday, and returned by foot each weekend. It is thought to be one of the oldest buildings in the shire of South Gippsland. On the lawn is the fishing boat, the Janet Isles, which was used by the house's owners, the Smith family, for several generations. Barry Beach, a few kilometers west, is a supply base for the oil rigs of Bass Strait. Steel platforms are constructed here and towed into the strait, where piles are driven through the hollow legs and a deck is welded on. An observation area, overlooking the terminal, has been organised. The area was reputedly named after jack-of-all-trades, John Baragwanath, who owned land at the mouth of the Agnes River. Skilled at ironwork, photography, and surveying, he manufactured his own camera and telescope and assisted the locals in the guises of an informal doctor, a legal counselor, and a bush dentist - always carrying a set of forceps with which to yank out troublesome teeth. Harold Lasseter - the man who made and prompted numerous expeditions to central Australia by claiming that a mother lode of gold, known as Lasseter's Reef, was there to be mined - lived in the area for his last thirty years. He died returning from one of his own trips in about 1931 The township of Welshpool, a few kilometers to the north, relies upon the dairy and wool industries. 9 km north-west of Welshpool you can visit one of the highest waterfalls in Victoria at the Agnes Falls Reserve, where the river plunges 60 m over the gorge. The damming of the river above the falls ensures the water supply Welshpool and other local towns. Walking tracks, picnic and barbecue facilities are available. To get there, head west along the highway and turn off at Slades Hill Road, near the school. The route is signposted. Return via Toora for maximum scenic value. BEAUTIFUL COSY FAMILY HIDEAWAY - FREE WIFI AND FOXTEL THE AMAZING AND HISTORIC "LONG JETTY" HAS NOW BEEN REOPENED AND IS A MUST VISIT IN THE TOWN.

  • Stor liten plats, Awsome vyer!

    Luke2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • Stora värdar i ett fantastiskt läge. Kommer att boka igen när han kommer tillbaka till Wilsons Prom

It’s a two room, very stylish self contained unit. Wood fire in winter, we have a heap of really good DVD's and give you popcorn 🍿 to watch your favorite if the TV is glitchy :) Best for couples, maybe a baby or small child, (with your own porta cot) See the stars, hear frogs, and owls, be woken by a symphony of birds life -breath and feel free.
its a farming area, we have our own beef cows and calves, and apart from our house - next door, behind the trees- the closest neighbor is the next hill. If your around in winter, we have a fire place, the area is still beautiful and you could catch a game of local footy. :)
