Self contained guesthouse, five minutes drive from Clifton Village, Ashton Gate, Ashton Court, and ten minutes to the City Centre. Brand new and finished to a high standard, with king size bed, sofa, table, TV (with iplayer, netflix), sound system, private bathroom, underfloor heating and broadband. *there is no kitchen*, however there is a mini fridge, kettle, and tea/coffee.
The guesthouse is opposite the main house. There is off street parking. Guests have use of the shared garden.
This is a lovely clean modern and cosy space. Previous guests have said it is great for a quiet weekend away, a base for exploring the city, or if you are in Bristol for work.
In addition to a really comfy bed, tea/coffee station, fridge and microwave, there is a wood burning stove in the property- we are happy to provide a basket of logs and kindling for an extra £10, payable on arrival.
There is also a built in sound system if you like to listen to music, wifi, and a TV with netflix if you just want to relax!
If the weather is good there is also a nice outside space with a table for a glass of wine in the evening.
As detailed below, the guesthouse is opposite our main house, but we will leave you in peace and quiet unless you want to interact!
Failand is a quiet village, with a good pub and local shop and post office in easy walking distance from the house. It is easy and quick to access the rest of the city. Ashton Gate and Ashton Court are a five minute drive away, and a bus stop outside the house makes a stop at one of the Ashton Court entrances (next to the Ashton Pub) and Ashton Gate, before going on to the City centre. Clifton Village is a 5 minute drive away.
Local food and drinks
Bristol is a great place for the foodie!
Clifton village is a 5-10 minute drive away with a large choice of places to eat and drink- there are lots of independent bars and restaurants, and a few chains too. The suspension bridge costs £1 each way to cross (cash or card) but normally you can park just on this side of the bridge and walk across if you prefer.
For a drink with a view on a sunny day you can’t beat the Avon Gorge Hotel. If you fancy an upmarket curry, Nutmeg is fab. The Giggling Squid is great for Thai. And for a morning coffee/ brunch the Primrose Café is a Clifton classic. Bravas on Cotham Hill is slightly out of Clifton, but a great independent place for tapas. However- there are absolutely loads of great little places!
Whapping Wharf is a new development 10-15 minutes away, down by the river, with lots of independent restaurants and shops that have been made out of old shipping containers. As well as being a nice place for a stroll, it is also where the SS Great Britain and M-Shed (one of Bristol’s museums) are situated.
North Street in Southville is a popular area about 10-15 minutes away and has a theatre (the Tobacco Factory) and loads of coffee shops, bars and restaurants.
Gloucester road is slightly further away (15-20 minute drive) but also has a really good selection of independent bars, pubs and restaurants. If you fancy something seedy try the dirty dirty fries at the Hobgoblin- often imitated, never bettered.
If you wanted something really close by, the Failand Inn is a traditional pub serving food a 1 minute drive away- turn left at the end of the driveway and it is just up past the post office.
For upmarket boutiques try Clifton Village, or if you are after something a bit quirky try Gloucester Road. For the big chains hit up Cabot Circus, or if you prefer, the Mall at Cribbs Causeway also has a good selection of shops
Ashton Court is a five minute drive away- there are various entrances and some really nice walks to be had. There are also mountain bike trails. Leigh woods is also five minutes away and offers beautiful woodland walks alongside the Avon Gorge.
