Jamaica is a small village in the Green Mountain National Forest near the base of Stratton Mountain. While visitors get all the quaint friendliness one expects from a small New England Village, they also get an amazingly beautiful wilderness just walking out the door. Miles of hiking trails, waterfalls and adventures are just steps away. Just download the AllTrails map app and go. Leave the car in the driveway, because you are already here! My 1830 Greek Revival farmhouse, was built in the architectural style of The White House, in an era not long after the American Revolution, when our young nation was looking to all the great possibilities of a new free nation. Abraham Lincoln was 21. If you are here for the skiing in winter we are very close to Stratton Mountain, but miles away if you are looking for a different, more small town Vermont experience. Winter is not the only season to find thrills here either. The Spring kayaking on the West River can be quite intense and it’s hard to match our amazing Summers, because we have a cooler climate. It’s not as muggy up here. We rarely even use our AC units. We also have cooler people. Lots of artists and musicians. Forget The Hamptons and Cape Cod, and frying in that traffic. Vermont is where it’s at. Of course the amazing colors of Autumn is legendary here, but short lived, before the season of the sticks!

If you like comfort food with a twist, this place just up Route 30 a few miles in Rawsonville rocks. Try the Honey Pie, it sounds gross, but is actually a custard like dessert similar to Creme Brûlée, (paired with whisky it's amazing!). Also try the milk shakes. The owners of this fast food take-out joint with picnic tables also own Solo, one of Vermont's top two restaurants.

There's some great baked goods made locally and a pretty decent selection of wines and beers. And Wednesday night is Pizza Night! They'll make just about anything, but ask what the special is. They often have pretty amazing specials. You also need to get your order in by the early afternoon!
This is an amazing restaurant nearby in South Londonderry. Famed NYC restauranteur Danny Meyer has called it the best restaurant in New England. Yes, it's expensive, but if you can get a reservation, take it. It's an experience serious foodies will definitely appreciate!

This is a local Jamaica pub that has a history going way back to the stagecoach days, but is relatively new in it's new life in the Three Mountain Inn. Just a 3-5 minute walk from the house. Usually only open in the Summer, its a great place to grab a bite, unwind and down a few beers while enjoying live music

This is one of the top restaurants for food at Stratton with a busy bar scene during the ski season. Mostly modern American cuisine. It's open on a limited basis the rest of the year. Table reservations are limited during ski season, so unless you've planned it far in advance you are always better off just showing up at the bar right when they open and ordering dinner there. Most people prefer doing this, hence the very active bar scene which can get very crowded as people position themselves to pounce on any seats that open up.

Whether it's filet mignon or a rack of lamb you want to fire up on the grill this is the store to get the best meat. Located in nearby Londonderry, it’s a great stop on a Saturday if you are coming from the West River Farmers Market across the street.

You go into the West Townshend Store to order your pizza and enjoy live music, then wait at the bar with a pager outside next to the giant toasty pizza oven which is under a huge post and beam open structure with a roof. A great place to unwind with an IPA and soak in the local scene while waiting for your pizza! Probably best to eat your pizza while it’s hot right at the bar!
