Fortetsa (Can also be referred to as "Fortezza") is a fortress in Rethymno, Crete, built by the Venetians in 1573. It is the fortress Acropolis of the city. It was built by the Venetians in the 16th century, and occupied by the Ottomans in 1646. In the early 20th century, many houses were built inside the citadel. These were demolished after World War II, leaving only a few historic buildings inside the Fortezza. Today, the citadel is in good condition and open to the public.

In the back and the central courtyard, the orchard with the oranges, the well and the cistern with the stone boat are preserved to this day. There are such beautiful and large gardens in many houses of the old town of Rethymnon, invisible from the street.
