Very cheap, relaxed and special chinese restaurant owned by an English guy who fell in love with Asia. Must try: steamed rice in banana leaf, steamed dumplings (prawn, veal or vegetable ones), roast duck (two types), steamed pak-choi and mushrooms, cucumber salad (a bit hot), thai fish cakes. Noodles are made in-house from organic flour. Cheap and amazing.

A place to enjoy really fresh seafood -- crabs, prawns. You pick out what you want at the counter, it's weighed up and heaved away, and you pick it up crisp and steaming on a platter. However, the place is not fancy, it feels as if you are the fish market, eating there. The calling of the numbers (people's orders) can be a bit annoying as it is louder than it needs to be, but if you want market atmosphere, its a different place to eat.

An unique tapas bar, serving original and creative tapas - small, as initially tapas were ('tapas' were just a bite on the cover/lid ('tapa') of the glass (a glass of wine was covered by a little plate to fend off flies, and the Spaniards could not stand the site of an empty plate and came up with an idea that a bite of something small but delicious should be placed on it! to go well with wine) - and inexpensive. In a small hectic place, but with a lot of atmosphere.

A bar with lottos atmosphere in El Borne, with good cocktails.
A wonderful bar open until late, hidden among the treasures of Gotic buildings,... a little street next to cutest little square in Barcelona. The bar has a special atmosphere, and has on friday and Saturday live jazz. Ginger has this new location and continues serving great cocktails.

Its a wonderful example of Catalan modernist architecture. The hospital was a functioning hospital until 2009, and now one part is turned into a museum, which, I was told by many guests who followed my recommendation, was one of highlights of their trip.

Bunkers of Carmel, today what is left of them are the old concrete platforms that were once part of anti-aircraft battery during the Spanish Civil War. In the post-War it was a shanty town until the early 1990s (you will find tiled floors of what used to be houses), and has lain abandoned since then. It offers amazing views, from this place full of history, as post civil-war immigration to Barcelona is very important to urbanisation of this wonderful city, thanks to which Barcelona is what it is.

Santa Maria del Mar is a wonderful gothic church in antique part of the town. It is a 14th century Catalan Gothic architecture with a strong personality. Particularly outstanding is the horizontal-structure of its buildings. It is absolutely stunning and I would recommend visiting the church, preferably in late afternoon , around 7pm to avoid crowds.

Parks & Nature
It has amazing views of Barcelona, and offers an opportunity to be in nature but still being in a big city. Look for cactus garden, and also there are many other gardens to get lost. A wonderful caffe restaurant - although it is a bit hidden - is La Font del Gat - its more of a hidden architectural treasure to me than a caffe (as it has always been closed when I went there) but magical to me. Its a romantic spot too.

It is a restaurant in a park, so it is a park with a restaurant within! I love this place as it feels like being at the countryside while actually you are on a hill overlooking Barcelona, and only 10-15 minutes taxi ride from very centre. They do a three course menu for lunch, and dinner for groups larger than 20 persons. I recommend it for a snack and coffee.

A foundation of a famous and very influential catalan artist Antoni Tàpies (1923-2012). There is a permanent exhibition of Tapies' work, and also always a temporary exhibition (housed downstairs) of another contemporary artist. Antoni Tàpies; Spanish painter, lithographer and etcher, born in Barcelona. Studied law at Barcelona University 1943-6, then gave this up to devote himself to painting. Studied for two months in 1944 at a drawing school in Barcelona, the Valls Academy; otherwise self-taught. In 1945-7 made many works with thick impasto, collages, found objects and graffiti. Took part with other young painters and writers from Barcelona in the creation of the group and periodical Dau al Set 1948. Painted delicate romantic Surrealist pictures influenced by Miró and Klee in 1949-52. First one-man exhibition at the Galerias Laietanes, Barcelona, 1950. Lived in Paris 1950-1 on a French government scholarship, and has since made frequent visits to Paris. Turned to abstract art in 1952 and began soon afterwards to use thick, highly textured impasto incorporating such materials as clay and marble dust, together with incised and scribbled lines, lacerations, etc.; images sometimes evoking doors, battered walls, incised tablets or parts of the human body. Awarded in 1958 the First Prize for painting at the Pittsburgh International, and the UNESCO and David E. Bright Prizes at the Venice Biennale. From c.1970 frequently incorporated real objects such as buckets and pieces of furniture in his works.

A wonderful place o f interest for art and architecture lovers. Highly recommended. The Fundació Joan Miró was created by Miró himself, at first principally with works from his own private collection, with a desire to set up an internationally recognised centre in Barcelona for Miró scholarship and contemporary art research, and to disseminate the collection. The Fundació opened to the public on 10 June 1975 and has since become a dynamic centre in which Joan Miró’s work coexists with cutting-edge contemporary art. With an interdisciplinary approach, the Fundació organises temporary exhibitions of 20th and 21st century artists as well as academic activities and projects in collaboration with other institutions and organisations. Through its exhibition and educational programmes, the Fundació Joan Miró explores lines of research linked to the work of Miró and to contemporary art. The Fundació is located in a building designed by Josep Lluís Sert, making it one of the few museums anywhere in the world in which the complicity between artist and architect underpins the dialogue between the works and the space that houses them. The Fundació offers an overview of the landscapes of Joan Miró’s art and life, creating an enriching dialogue with other artists from the 20th and 21st centuries.

A must for architecture lovers. The Barcelona Pavilion, an emblematic work of the Modern Movement, had inspired, and continues to do so, several generations of architects. The Barcelona Pavilion was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe as the German National Pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition, held on Montjuïc. Built from glass, steel and different kinds of marble, the Pavilion was conceived to accommodate the official reception presided over by King Alfonso XIII of Spain along with the German authorities. After the closure of the Exhibition, the Pavilion was disassembled in 1930. As time went by, it became a key point of reference not only in Mies van der Rohe’s own career but also in twentieth-century architecture as a whole. Given the significance and reputation of the Pavilion, thoughts turned towards its possible reconstruction. In 1980 Oriol Bohigas, as head of the Urban Planning Department at the Barcelona City Council, set the project in motion, designating architects Ignasi de Solà-Morales, Cristian Cirici and Fernando Ramos to research, design and supervise the reconstruction of the Pavilion. Work began in 1983 and the new building was opened on its original site in 1986.

Address, C/Napols 155. It is a local produce and organic food store. Its absolutely lovely place to get great quality fruits and vegetables, rice, pasta, quinoa, cereals, honey, eggs, cheese, organic ham, etc. Many things but as it is not big, not everything can be bought there. Woke Organic Market is much bigger but quality of fruits and vegetables is not as great as in Cal Rosset.
