Guidebook for Mad River Valley
Great Local Restaurants and Cafes
The Mad River Valley does not have any national chain restaurants and there is a certain pride to that fact. Many if not most, source their food locally in the Mad River Valley or regionally whenever they can.
We have eaten at each one of the restaurants listed here and have had repeated great experiences. This is a small valley community, days and hours tend to change from time to time. I suggest calling ahead just to be sure they are open when choosing where to go. Where I could, I pulled descriptions from their websites; for more information, please pay those sites a visit and enjoy the Mad River Valley's food scene, there is a lot to choose from!

The Pitcher Inn is home to a Vermont style dining experience and an à la carte farm-to-table dinner menu created by Chef Adam Longworth. With thoughtfully sourced ingredients, an appetite for detail, and service that is as knowledgeable as it is warm.
They also have a more casual bar area downstairs, with billiards and shuffle board. Both require a reservation.

American Flatbread is a casual, family-friendly restaurant serving salads, pizzas, and desserts with a focus on agricultural sustainability. Guests dine around the wood-fired oven as cooks prepare meals to order using ingredients from area producers.
The restaurant is open Thursday through Sunday evenings from 5:00 to 9:30 pm, and start accepting names for reservations in person at 4:00pm.
They do have fire pits to enjoy drinks while you wait.
There is also the Big Red Barn Gallery on site and they usually have shows open in August and September.

An old mill site turned swimming hole. Three levels of pools with many rock outcrops to jump from. Since the parking lot was installed it has gotten quite busy in Summer but worth a visit if you can find a spot.
