Our favourite restaurants.
We are both foodies and love to eat out. Difficult to recommend eateries as John is a good cook and we eat very well at home. So eating out remains a challenge. But these are a few of the places we like to go to.
This restaurant is in the village where we live in Fontevraud l'Abbaye. (4 kms from Montsoreau) It is also an hotel so can get busy in the summer. The interior is beautiful and in the summer you can sit on the terrace overlooking the village centre. The food has always been very good, well presented and consistent.

France has many stunning chateaux, its true; But once you have seen one, you have pretty much seen them all!
The best ones we think are...
Its not really the chateau that we recommend, although beautiful, it is the stunning gardens. Laid out like a glorified 'potager' with formal planting, mixed with garden veg and flowers. A large lake with swans and a garden with perennial flowers, more like an English garden. Plenty of walks with stunning views over the garden.

This fairy tale chateau is a must see. Beautiful award winning gardens with wooded area, a maze and a potager. In the summer the roses are outstanding. Also throughout the summer and in the autumn there is usually something going on. Jousting, garden events, theatre...

Beautiful chateau set on the edge of this pretty town with bars and restaurants. Lovely formal gardens and in the summer they have the 'son et lumiere' in the evenings.

The chateau in the village where you are staying is beautiful. Just minutes from Le Seize. Not to be missed!

Not a Chateau... but a beautiful Abbey built in the 11th century. One of the largest surviving monastic cities from the Middle Ages. Art installations, lovely gardens. There is a café and brassiere and a Michelin star restaurant.
