If you like southern barbecue, Paulie's is the real deal. He isn't open every day, and you have to get there before he closes because he sells out and goes home. Heart stoppingly good!

Sightseeing
Crabtree Falls is the longest waterfall east of the Mississippi. It's a beautiful 2 miles hike to the top. Fairly strenuous to go all the way, but it's fine to go part way. 50 minutes from cottage in the Shenandoah National Park.

Crabtree Falls is the longest waterfall east of the Mississippi. It's a beautiful 2 miles hike to the top. Fairly strenuous to go all the way, but it's fine to go part way. 50 minutes from cottage in the Shenandoah National Park.
It's about a 3 mile hike from the cottage up a trail to the Appalachian Trail. Another 1.2 miles takes you to Humpback Rocks and the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can climb the mountain to enjoy the 360 degree views or just walk back down. We maintain most of the trail up to the AT.
Howardsville Turnpike
It's about a 3 mile hike from the cottage up a trail to the Appalachian Trail. Another 1.2 miles takes you to Humpback Rocks and the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can climb the mountain to enjoy the 360 degree views or just walk back down. We maintain most of the trail up to the AT.
The start of Howardsville Turnpike is .6 miles from the cottage. It's gravel for about half a mile and then turns to more of a fire trail road. SUVs can drive to within 3/4 mile of the Appalachian Trail. This section is mostly maintained by us.
