Sightseeing

Bergen's oldest quarter runs along the eastern shore of Vågen Harbour. To get the feeling of the "old" Bergen stroll the the UNESCO Heriage Site Bryggen and the nearby “smugs” - narrow alleys between the tiny wooden house above Bryggen. Have a skillingsbolle - the traditional Bergen cinnamon bun - in the bakery at the north end. Do explore further than the frontages facing the harbour, as the wooden alleyways inside Bryggen are the most charming; a haven for artists and craftspeople

The Funicular is a cable car to top of mount Fløien, and starts in the city center. If you are up for a little hike you can take it up and walk back down. The trail is good and the view spectacular. It is also possible to take the Fløibanen Funicular to the mid-station Skansemyren, and walk to Fjellveien from there. The path itself offers more of a stroll than a hike and offers panoramic views over Bergen and the beautiful, old, hillside mansions. It is a popular path for young and old alike, including joggers, couples, and prams. You can also walk to Rosesmauet fro. Fjellveien, and most of it is situated close to the City Center.

Food scene

Just a couple of minutes from the house you will this great cafe, our favorite in town, in one of the old pack houses on the other side of the road and to the right. They have the best cinnamon buns in town, as well as great sandwiches, hot soups and simple sea food dishes. They also have a bar, and beautiful outdoor area on the dock

This is one of our favourite waterhole. It is a really informal, kinda eclectic, with an older clientele. They serve local beer, wine and traditional dishes. In the summer they have some of the best shrimp you can get in town 🙂

Voss is beautiful little town many miss going directly to the more famous Flåm. It is easily reached by train from Bergen city center, and the train ride takes a little more than one hour. Well worth to stroll around for a few hours. There is gondola that takes you up to the mountains above the city, if you like a better view.
