City/town information

Our medieval town has over 48 well-preserved historical monuments. The buildings are made of beautiful yellow stones that glow in the evening from our lit up buildings and lanterns. There are winding streets, courtyards, cafes, bars, restaurants, clothing stores, ice cream shops, boutiques, art exhibitions, museums, to name a few. Sarlat is a small town but is rich in culture. A walking delight!

Castles and Fortresses

A must-see! A fortress on a hill overlooking the Dordogne River with a panoramic view. Other castles can be seen from this hilltop. The castle is filled with armament from several centuries and is interesting to visit.

Transportation.

If you take a train from Paris you can go to Bordeaux directly on a fast TGV train. There isn't much difference between First and Second Class on the train from Bordeaux to Sarlat. If you're just coming to enjoy the town you don't need a car. However, if you are going to visit any châteaux, gardens, prehistoric caves or nearby towns you will need to rent a car, especially if your trip is only 2-3 days. The train station is a 20-25 minute walk to the center with one hill. Reserve taxis in advance if you can. Uber is not available here in Sarlat.
