Tramore Food Highlights
Here are some of our favourite cafes and restaurants in Tramore. A few have limited outdoor dining, but the focus is more on takeout giving the ongoing Covid restrictions...
Open 12-3 Wednesday to Saturday (possibly also Monday and Tuesday during summer)
Excellent Middle Eastern Deli on Main Street. Ever changing selection of absolutely delicious middle eastern salads, with excellent falafel, flatbreads and other specialities. We recommend trying the Mezze Box. The shop has a great selection of spices, sauces, flatbreads and wine. They do very good coffee also. Not to be missed!
There is an attractive, but small outside area behind the shop, or you can do takeaway.

Terrific views across the beach at this café/restaurant at the promenade. They serve a wide range of pizzas, burgers, salads, fish etc. Decent food, not super expensive. Can get quite busy, so book a table in advance.
New restaurant, which we haven’t yet been to, but which has earned a very good reputation over the pandemic for its eat-at-home meals. High end, and you will need to make a reservation once they reopen for indoor dining (whenever that is...)

One the Waterfront
Gallwey's HillRestaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The main attraction is the spacious outdoor deck, overlooking the beach; on a sunny day, when it is not too windy, it is just stunning. We haven’t been bowled over by the food here, but lots of people love it.
Molly’s is our default for a coffee after a walk on the beach; probably the best coffee on the promenade. This is the main haunt for the Tramore surfing fraternity. They do some simple sandwiches, but the focus is not really on food.

Located in the old Coast Guard station on the Doneraile Walk this café has a lovely garden with superb views over the bay. It is a great place to hang out on a sunny day.

Another Tramore institution, this time for Fish and Chips. When it is good it is very good, but it is not always good. Two outlets: this is on Main St. and is less busy in the summer, the other is at the end of the prom and can have huge queues, but chips always taste better when eaten on the beach...

Our favourite Indian restaurant in Waterford (and probably in Ireland)… we even go there for takeaway, as the Tramore alternative is not nearly as good. Good selection of vegetarian dishes (the spinach based ones are recommnded).

This is our favourite pizza place in Waterford, worth trying if you are in that part of Waterford (near the hospital on the Dunmore Road). They have an app, so best to use it to order before collection; otherwise you can be waiting a long time.

Brilliant water sports centre in Dunmore East. The Wibit Wipeout (inflatable thingy in the water) is a huge hit with children. The staff are brilliant and safety is an absolute priority. Very much recommended.

Mini farm with a range of animals, including a few exotic ones. Lots of sand pits. Some semi enclosed sheds in case it rains. A cafe. That is all I can remember... we went there a lot when our kids were small, but that is quite a while ago now :-)

Really nice elevated loop walk (1.5km) near the beach with lovely views over the Back Strand.

You can walk on the sand dunes themselves, there are lots of paths. It is a great place for children to explore. It is recommended to stay on the paths in order not to disturb wildlife or damage the dunes themselves.

Short elevated walk, boasting superb views of Tramore Bay. The easiest way to access is to park at the Coast Guard station. There is a café with a nice garden out front, which is nice to relax in on a sunny day.

Small but beautiful Japanese Garden in the centre of Tramore, named after Lafcadio Hearn, who has a strong link to Tramore, and who is known to this day by everyone in his adopted home of Japan. They have a nice café also.

You can walk (2.5km) to Dunhill Castle (climb up to it for great views), or continue further (about 2km) to Annestown beach. Highly recommended!
Short but lovely walk on a wooden boardwalk over Fenor Bog. Well worth a short detour if you are passing through. Entrance is through the car park beside the Church. If you have small children the Playpark across the road is really really good (but can get busy)

Near Fenor, but a little hard to find (see our Google Map), so one for the locals (and those in the know). The path leads to a nice mature wood and on to Ballyscanlon lake. Never too busy.
