It was constructed on the foundations of the Temple of Claudius, built when Colchester was the first Roman capital of Britain.
Don't miss a walk in the beautifully landscaped park surrounding the council.
With interactive displays and star exhibits, like the Colchester Gladiator Vase and Fenwick Hoard of Roman treasure.
Have a go at building a Norman archway, dressing as an Iron Age Briton or steering a Roman chariot. Be wowed as a large scale projection transforms the east wall with light and sound.
Tours, led by expert guides, are offered daily and can take you down into the Roman vaults and up onto the Castle roof.

High StreetFrinton Beach is a 25 minute drive from the apartment. The beach is sandy and you can enjoy a walk along the promenade all the way to Walton pier.
Frinton is a small town and I would advise brining your own picnic with you and taking food and drink down to the beach as there are no shops on the beach front.

Make sure to visit Mersea Island with it's small beaches and beautiful views. This is the best place to get fresh fish and seafood meals with the always popular Mersea Shed.
Don't forget to check the Mersea Island Tides before you set off and before you leave as high tide will rise over the one road in and out of the village and you may have to wait a little while before you can drive through.

Wivenhoe is a 15 minute drive from the apartment and it's riverside location make it perfect on a sunny day. There are local pubs that serve food and even a small local tapas bar.
Visit to spend the day enjoying food and drink and the view.
You can walk to Wivenhoe from the apartment along the river, I would only recommend this if you are up for a long walk as it would take about an hour and a half but is a very enjoyable walk taking in the country views.

Visit the dedham boathouse restaurant for lunch on the river, or take a rowing boat along the river and enjoy the countryside. You can walk along a popular walking trail along the river to neighboring Flatford mill which would take about 45 minutes.
This place is a local favorite and it can be pretty busy on a warm day.

Visit the dedham boathouse restaurant for lunch on the river, or take a rowing boat along the river and enjoy the countryside. You can walk along a popular walking trail along the river to neighboring Flatford mill which would take about 45 minutes.
This place is a local favorite and it can be pretty busy on a warm day.
You can walk to the train station from the flat in 10 minutes, and be in London in 45 minutes.
