Unique Jems to be discovered....

here a list of unique places, jems and iconic places that are out of the classic touristic ways.
The Botanical Garden, one of the largest in Italy, was founded in 1514 by Pope Leo X. Today it covers 12 hectares and preserves naturalistic varieties from all over the world cultivated by reconstructing their natural environments. You will find, among other things, a collection ranging from 300 ultra-old trees to the richest collection of Bamboo in Europe, 400 species of orchids and a sprawling Japanese Garden, with its cherry trees, camellias and magnolias, with evocative water features, small waterfalls and two enchanting ponds, which in April offers an incredible Hanami, the wonderful blossoming of the cherry trees in the Japanese garden. At any time of the year you will find different colours and scents but for me it is a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle and relax. Entrance fee.

The Aventino hill, one of 7 in Rome, is a wonderful but extraordinarily quiet area. Located very close to the Circo Massimo, it is a neighborhood in which to get lost walking among prestigious residences, churches and gardens, the most famous of which is the Orange Garden where you can enjoy one of the many breathtaking views of the city and near which you will also find a real gem. Not far from the Garden is the Priory Palace of the Knights of Malta: well, leaning your eye to the keyhole of the massive gate you can enjoy a small but extraordinary spectacle of perspectives! Worth the visit.

I know, Rome is full of archaeological sites, why should I go all the way to Tivoli to see a Roman Villa? Simply because Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli (50 km east of Rome) is one of the most extraordinary places you will be able to see. It is an imperial residence, or perhaps we could say a small village, built by the Emperor Hadrian around 135 AD. There aren't many words to describe the beauty of this place where you can spend a few hours strolling through a vast network of streets, buildings and truly breathtaking scenery. Great added value is the tranquility: it is rare to find crowds in Villa Adriana and the peace in which you can visit this place will add even more magic and beauty to your visit.

amazing Reinassance VIlla with a unique park and Unesco Heritage. Not far from Villa Adriana, I would suggest a visit if you would like to spend a day out of the city center, Villa D'Este and Villa Adriana (same area) it is really worth it!

Visiting the ancient layout of the Via Appia is an experience. You may know that one of the reasons for the Romans' success in ancient times was their ability to build roads. The Appian Way was one of the most important and connected Rome to Brindisi, over 600 km further south... The via appia still exists today, although obviously with another layout, but some sections of the original route are still visible today and are one of the most evocative views of rome. The roadway is built with large blocks of stone on which the ruts of the carts are still visible and on the sides of the road the inevitable rows of pine trees and a mix of ancient Roman funerary monuments and sumptuous villas where, not surprisingly, some Roman VIPs live. Take a walk, rent a bicycle and maybe stop for a bite in one of the little restaurants that are still there, almost frozen in time.

still a place a little off the big tourist routes. A beautiful church, a stone's throw from the Colosseum and the Roman Forum which contains one of Michelangelo's most famous masterpieces. The statue of Moses. Donate a coin for enlightenment and silently enjoy the beauty and flickering energy emanating from this wonderful statue, so beautiful that it is said that Michelangelo himself, nearing its completion, addressed her as a person asking him: why don't you speak !!

The Gianicolo terrace is undoubtedly a must, even for Romans who love to enjoy this fantastic view of the Eternal City. The only thing you may not see is the dome of St. Peter's, but only because it is very close to you, on your left! What you will surely see is the imposing equestrian statue dedicated to Giuseppe Garibaldi and the spectacular view that can be enjoyed from this point where, even today, every day at exactly noon, a cannon is fired (blanks of course) to help you adjust the clock and realize it's almost lunch time!

On the Palatine hill are preserved the remains of the Iron Age settlements referable to the most ancient nucleus of the city of Rome but later the hill became the seat of the imperial palaces. It is part of the Colosseum archaeological park and can be visited with a single ticket. Not bad for having been the residential district of the Emperors.
