Trattoria da Billy ! The best !! Fantastic for sea food and home made pasta !! ( Thursday is the closing day ) here it is better to book or you risk not finding a free table. ( If you go to Trattoria Da Billy I recommend the mixed seafood appetizer and as a first course spaghetti with seafood or tagliolini with cuttlefish ink. As a wine, Crovara, which is produced right here in Manarola in the fields in front of the house ). In winter ( low season ), from November to February included, many commercial activities are closed for holidays. Specifically, the Trattoria da Billy is usually open from March 8st to November 1st

This place is one of my favorites and all my guests love it. It opens from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Open (except for exceptional openings) from May to September. you can find it at the top of the village next to the parking lot. Every evening (Monday is the closing day), Manarola's husband and wife (Tino and Yvonne) prepare different types of focaccia platters (it's not a focacceria, it's a kind of restaurant); every evening fresh focaccia with seafood or local produce and the woman (Yvonne) who is a sommelier, has all the wines produced locally. It also has a Zen garden. I recommend the table under the lemon tree !!

Ristorante Pizzeria La Regina di Manarola. Run by people not from Manarola. Good restaurant and pizzeria, but expensive. You can find it at the top of the village, near the church square, a little away from the sea. Leaving my house, go left, take the first stairs on the right, go up, you arrive in Piazza Castello, go up the stairs that you will find in front of you, at the end of that street you arrive in the church square. Fishing Tourism in the Cinque Terre At dusk the hills turn orange, and the white of our fishing boat crosses the blue of the Gulf of Cinque Terre. So you can decide whether to sunbathe on the roof of our solarium, take a bath inside a cave, or enjoy a fresh local wine accompanied by delicious bruschetta prepared with our anchovies. But if you have a passion for fishing you can also discover the fish that have become entangled in Guido and Lorenzo's nets .. and soon you can also enjoy the grilled fish directly on the boat ... An unforgettable experience on the water !!! 🐡🐟🐡🐟🐡🦞🐟🐡🐟🐡🐟🐡🦑🐟🐡🐟🦀🐟🐡🐟🐡🐟🐡🦐🐟🐡

Download the free app Cinque Terre Hiking Guide. With the Cinque Terre card you can take all trains, buses and trails. On the trailss please note that open-toe shoes and/or shoes with smooth soles or shoes without a non-slip "Vibram-type" sole are prohibited. Violators will be punished according to paragraph 2 of art. 30 of law 394/91 and subsequent modifications. Cinque Terre paths safety notice: remember that the Cinque Terre paths due to the conformation of the territory (as you can see from the photos, the Cinque Terre are made up of mountains that flow into the sea, the Cinque Terre are not flat) the paths they are dangerous and tiring (in the Cinque Terre nothing is easy). The paths of the Cinque Terre are ancient, narrow, made up of many ups and downs and slippery and irregular stairs, often with stones that move as you pass. You must have good hiking shoes with non-slip Vibram soles and good physical condition. You must have at least one liter of water in your backpack. Every year some tourists die on our paths because they slip down or because they have a heart attack from too much effort. Some tourists end up in hospital. Others are recovered by helicopter. The single number for emergencies is 112. Calculate that each village in the Cinque Terre is about a two-hour walk from one another, calculate the daylight hours well and calculate any unexpected events. Trains run from 5 am to midnight. By train each village of the Cinque Terre is 1 - 2 minutes by train from each other. Avoid walking the paths during the hottest hours (starting early in the morning is the best solution). Never ride the trails after it has rained, as the trails become even more slippery than usual. Always follow the signs (many tourists get lost and then have to be searched for and recovered by helicopter) and the red and white signs of the c.a.i. (Italian Alpine Club). Do not walk the paths in slippers or without good physical condition. I repeat: every year some tourists die on our paths, very often because they have not been given honest information or because they themselves have not informed themselves sufficiently. The Cinque Terre are not Disneyland!! Be careful!

Le Guide ai Quartieri

The train station is practically in the town center 5 minutes from my house. When you get off at the station, go down the underpass, cross the tunnel and you are immediately in the town centre, I will wait for my guests there, at the exit of the station tunnel in front of the Aristide restaurant and then I will take you to my beloved little house. In the Cinque Terre and therefore also here in Manarola, the satellite navigators of smartphones work badly and so all the tourists get lost in the many small streets of our villages and thus waste a lot of time before entering the house or room they have rented. I was born here and I live here right next to the two houses that I rent, so communicate with me, I don't do self check-in, there is no cold and inhuman code to enter my house, I check-in personally and I will personally accompany you to the house and personally give you the keys. My house is located right on the sea in the middle of several narrow streets and the satellite navigators get confused and cannot find the way to my house. Finding my way home the first time alone is next to impossible. If you come by train I will come and wait for you at the exit of the station tunnel in front of the Aristide restaurant or if you come by car I will come and wait for you at the car park and then I will accompany you to my beloved cottage; on the way I'll explain two things about the town (so I'll save you time and money) when we get to the house I'll explain two things about the house and finally I'll give you the keys. Check-in is done in 10 minutes. Check-in is only possible from 2pm because guests from the previous days are inside until 10am, then I go inside and I need time to clean, sanitize and air the house, so check-in is only possible from 2 pm ( from 2 pm to 10 pm ). I am not one of the many rich people of the Cinque Terre who have many houses and restaurants and have servants who do everything for them, while they stay at home watching TV. I am alone, I am just a simple inhabitant of Manarola (a kind of a hermit monk, I am neither a merchant nor an entrepreneur.I offer simple, family and personal hospitality, I rent only 2 simple private furnished houses. I am a simple human being who hosts other simple human beings in my two beloved houses, from heart to heart, soul to soul. P.S. The Cinque Terre (and, therefore, also Manarola) are only pedestrian zone towns. In Manarola the cars are left outside the village about 500 meters from the houses by the sea (from the parking lot to my house, downhill, it takes about 10 minutes on foot, If you come by car, I will come and wait for you at the car park and then I will accompany you to my beloved little house.). There is a paid municipal car park (the one you see in the photos) or you can park for free along the road (always outside the village and if you find a free space), but be careful not to park on a curve and pay attention to the parking where the signs allow it or the municipal police will apply a fine of €60. If you arrive by car: the town (fortunately) is only a pedestrian area (if you go on the internet and look for a photo of Manarola you will see that inside the town there are no car roads, just narrow streets and stairs). The town is perched on the rock right on the sea. Cars are left outside the village about 500 meters from the houses by the sea. There is a paid municipal car park (it costs €20 one day, €35 two days, €50 three days and so on) or you can park for free along the road (always outside the town) in the stretches of road where road signs it allows it and obviously, if you are lucky enough to find a free place, it could also be full, I don't know this. The train is the most comfortable, fastest and cheapest way to arrive and move around the Liguria region and therefore also here in the Cinque Terre. The train arrives in the town center two minutes from my beloved little house and each village of the Cinque Terre is 2 minutes by train from each other (the train passes in the tunnels under the villages). Alternatively, you can park in the city of La Spezia, but be aware that even in La Spezia there are very few free parking spaces and there are also very few paid parking spaces, in a nutshell, by car it is difficult to find free parking anywhere. There is an underground parking (for a fee) under the La Spezia train station, you can park there and then come here by train (10 minutes), but even that parking could be full. So, if you choose to come by car here in Manarola I will come and wait for you at the car park (in the photos) ( Check-in is only possible from 2 pm. I can't keep your luggage because in the morning I'm busy cleaning, I don't have 1 minute to lose! Keep me upgrade! )

Keep me upgrade! )
From experience I tell you that most people who do not live in Italy have almost totally wrong information about the Cinque Terre, I cannot understand what information arrives abroad. I can understand that much is also to blame for too many businessmen who have tourist agencies, hotels, etc. who don't give much information, others give little honest information, still others say that here everything is beautiful and easy (and it's not like that, the Cinque Terre are mountains that flow into the sea, so there are many ups and downs and many stairs, the Cinque Terre are not flat, they are as tiring as they are fascinating, the paths are beautiful, but tiring and dangerous because they are slippery and steep. At the sea there are slippery and sharp rocks, you need to know how to swim well, walk well, all be very careful). But the reality is that most people arrive here without having a real idea of what Cinque Terre is. I'm not a trader or an entrepreneur, but just a simple inhabitant of Manarola (a sort of hermit monk, I was born here and I live right next to my two beloved houses that I rent) so I can afford to be sincere and honest. The Cinque Terre are particular, beautiful and fascinating, but they are not suitable for all people. The Cinque Terre are not Disneyland!! The train is certainly the simplest and fastest way because it connects all the villages of the Cinque Terre through the tunnels under them, each village of the Cinque Terre is 2 minutes by train from each other. The trains run all year round, since the railway that passes here is the same railway and the same line that connects Milan to Rome and also from France. If you have any questions write me before you get here.

Train / Car parking

The most comfortable and fastest way to come and move in the Cinque Terre is by train. The station is in the town center, 5 minutes from my house. Each village of the Cinque Terre is 2 minutes by train from each other. The car is the worst way, because the town is only a pedestrian zone. The cars are left outside the village about 500 meters from the houses on the sea. There is a paid municipal car park (see the photos I posted on Airbnb) or you can park for free along the road if you are lucky enough to find a place (always outside the town).

Trekking shoes

The town is full of stairs, climbs and descents, the hiking trails are full of irregular stairs, slippery climbs and descents, you need comfortable shoes, with non-slip soles and know how to walk well. For the aforementioned reasons, also, I absolutely do not recommend large suitcases !!!!!

Cinque Terre Card

With the Cinque Terre card you can take all trains, buses and go on all paid trails without paying and take advantage of the public wi-fi (in the areas where the signal arrives). You can buy it at the ticket office of the train station and at any park point and information office.

Restaurant

Especially from March to November, if you want to be sure of finding a free table, I recommend booking 4-5 days in advance if you want to go to a restaurant. In winter the restaurants close around 10pm, so if you want to have dinner I recommend going there around seven or eight in the evening.

Traghetti / Ferries

In the small port just below my house (go down the stairs, 1 minute on foot), there is the boarding for the ferries, which at a lower price than the classic boat tours, take people to visit Vernazza, Monterosso, Riomaggiore by sea, Portovenere, La Spezia, Lerici, Portofino. Active (with exceptions) from March to October.

Winter low season

From November inclusive to February inclusive is winter and considered low season, therefore some restaurants are closed for holidays, ferries and boat tours are closed. The trains run normally. The two mini markets are always open. Obviously the beauty of nature and the panorama that can be seen from the terraces of my two beloved houses remain the same all year round. March, on the other hand, is a month that is considered a cross between the low season and the high season. Usually all commercial activities are open.

High season

The high season in which all the commercial activities are open goes from April inclusive to October inclusive, therefore from spring to autumn.

Terrace

From the terrace of my two beloved houses, I recommend you stay and watch the sunrise and sunset, you can admire the hill of the vineyards in front, always in front of the terrace you can look at the seafront, the marina and the whole town of Manarola, you can see in front of you the sea and its horizon, also the towns of Corniglia and Monterosso (Vernazza cannot be seen because it lies between Corniglia and Monterosso). On the terrace of my two beloved houses you can have breakfast, lunch or dinner, lie down and relax, read a good book lulled by the sound of the sea.

Pesto courses and wine tastings

In Manarola I recommend visiting the panoramic road which is located right in the middle of the hill of vineyards right in front of my two beloved houses that I rent. I recommend in Manarola to attend their famous pesto course and local wine tasting at the A Pie De Campu restaurant. Even at the Niente Dorma bar they do a great pesto course. Instead, at La Cantina Dello Zio Bramante bar I recommend their famous tasting of local wines and anchovies.

Trails

I am a lover of hiking and meditation in nature. Here I suggest you take the path that goes from Manarola to Corniglia passing through the upper part of the villages. In my opinion it is the most beautiful path of the Cinque Terre and it is free. It is a very diversified and very panoramic path, which passes through vineyards, olive trees, woods and through the small village of Volastra which is located above Manarola. From Manarola to Corniglia it usually takes me two hours. When you arrive in Corniglia take the first del for Manarola (1 minute by train).

Monterosso and its monasteries

As I wrote previously, each village of the Cinque Terre is one minute by train from each other. From Manarola to Riomaggiore 1 minute by train. From Manarola to Corniglia 1 minute by train. From Manarola to Vernazza 5 minutes by train. From Manarola to Monterosso 10 minutes by train. In Monterosso I recommend going to visit the monastery of the Capuccini friars and the beautiful path that leads to Punta Mesco (where you will find the remains of an old monastery from the 1200s) and then continue on the path that will take you to Levanto in an hour and a half.

Walk from Manarola to Monterosso

If you are good and trained hikers, with good equipment and good hiking shoes, you can take the path that connects Manarola to Corniglia (passing through the upper part of the villages) and then continue along the blue path to Vernazza and then from Vernazza continue to Monterosso. In all, from Manarola to Monterosso, on foot, it takes between 6 and 7 hours of walking. But if you are fond of trekking, you will like it. When you arrive in Monterosso, you can relax on the beach watching the sunset and then take the train back to Manarola (10 minutes).

Influx of tourist groups

In Italy from spring to autumn (March to November) there are many tourists. Venice is full of tourists, Lake Como is full of tourists, Florence is full of tourists. Pisa is full of tourists. Rome is full of tourists. Of course also here in the Cinque Terre. Here the greatest influx of tourists, groups, etc. on the street is from 10 am to 5 pm. Before 10 am and after 5 pm everything is very quiet here in Manarola and in the village you can only hear the sound of the sea.

Beccara path to Riomaggiore

The path to Riomaggiore called Beccara is a very panoramic path, but also very difficult and tiring which requires good physical preparation, trekking shoes with non-slip soles. The path starts from the upper part of Manarola, it is a long ancient staircase made of irregular and sometimes slippery stones that goes from Manarola to the top of the mountain that divides the two villages, when you get to the top from there there is another staircase always made of irregular stones that takes you up to Riomaggiore. I repeat: it is a panoramic path, but very demanding and not suitable for everyone.

If you want to avoid tourist groups and traffic, whether you are by train or by car, I recommend that you leave early, between 7 and 8 am.

Windows open, sound of the sea.

From spring to autumn I advise you to sleep in my two beloved houses with the windows open, since being both right on the sea, with the windows open you will hear the sound of the sea, of the waves on the rocks and that sound is extremely relaxing for our mind while sleeping. In my two houses, being right on the sea and far from the cultivated fields, there are usually no mosquitoes. The sea breeze passes through the windows, blowing in the fresh air even in summer.

By ferry from Manarola to Portovenere

I recommend taking the ferry in the small port under my two houses that I rent and going to visit the village of Portovenere. Portovenere is a small seaside town near La Spezia and behind the Palmaria Island. It is an ancient village with medieval architecture with a church on the sea built on the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to the goddess Venus. In the upper part of the town there is a beautiful castle from 1,300AD. There is no train station in Portovenre. With the ferry from Manarola it takes about 40 minutes.

What to do in winter here.

Winter goes from November inclusive to February inclusive (low season). The climate is usually mild (around 15 degrees). The activities to do here are mainly related to trekking along the various paths that connect the five villages of the Cinque Terre. The villages are very quiet in winter, only the sound of the sea can be heard. Winter is suitable for those seeking peace, walking in nature and relaxing on the terrace. In winter some restaurants are closed for holidays and the sea water is usually cold, but you can still stay on the beach to get a tan.

Luggage storage

I don't advise you to come to the Cinque Terre with a lot of luggage or large bags as the Cinque Terre is full of up and down stairs. At the La Spezia train station you can find a convenient luggage storage service you can leave your larger bags there and then come by train to Manarola which is about 10 minutes by train Manarola is a small village of Athena 200 souls you don't need many souls things come here with the essentials. in Manarola from spring to autumn there is a shop called Explora which offers a paid luggage storage service.
