You can often find really cool concerts or performance art here. It's a small seating area, but that's part of the charm. And just to see the property alone is worth the visit. Great vibes here!

Great local crafts and vintage wear. This is one of the first places I recommend if you feel like doing a little light shopping or looking for a souvenir. Plus it's always nice to support local artists.

Healing and Metaphysics
This place books a ways out, if it's open, so look into it far in advance of your visit. But if you enjoy the metaphysical arts, you'll likely want to visit this place. It's a historic little slice of the area in that department.

This place is a staple for the area. They host all kinds of events and festivals including Bhaktifest. They also have a beautiful metaphysical gift shop!

Pioneertown is another historic little area in the desert, and definitely not to be missed if you like a good old spaghetti western atmosphere. Plus, my favorite pottery shop is there. They do beautiful work. You can also eat lunch at Red Dog or Pappy's and there's a great night life vibe there. Just check hours before visiting. They aren't open every day.

The Hidden Valley Nature Trail is an enjoyable one-mile loop trail that enters through an opening into a large bowl surrounded by rock walls. It's thought that due to the geography, Hidden Valley was once used by cattle rustlers, who would herd the cattle into this area to conceal them.
This is a relatively easy and scenic trail, making it one of the most popular hikes in Joshua Tree National Park. It does not have many Joshua trees. Of note on this trail is the giant monolith known as the Great Burrito, a popular climbing area in the park.

It is well worth the drive up to Keys View, a lookout point at an elevation of more than 5,000 feet, with sweeping views extending out over the Coachella Valley. In the distance, you can see the San Andreas fault line, Palm Springs, the Salton Sea, and on a clear day, beyond to Mexico. If the air is clear, the view is spectacular and this is a great way to get oriented with the surrounding geography.

If the air is clear, the view is spectacular and this is a great way to get oriented with the surrounding geography.

A short walking path, Barker Dam is a 1.3-mile loop trail. If you are only looking to do one short trail in Joshua Tree, this is your best bet, with huge Joshua trees, rocks, and an area of water that often attracts birds.
At the far end of the loop are the remnants of a water tank left by cattle ranchers who once lived in the area. Many people walk in to this point and turn around, leaving by the same route, but this is a mistake. While this might be slightly shorter, it is well worth continuing on, with much of the best scenery and largest trees on the loop beyond the dam.

Food scene
This is my personal favorite of the local diners. If you want plain old yummy diner food and to get more in the local scene than the tourist scene, this place is good medicine. I like their french toast combo a lot. :)
Also, just so you know, they only accept cash for tips here. I kept forgetting at first! Anyway, wonderful people, good local vibes.
