NATURE
The Florentine part of Mount Falterona and Campigna Forest National Park in Casentino, extends to the northern part of Mugello to the bordering provinces of Arezzo and Forlì. The landscape, of a typically mountainous setting, can be explored on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike along well-marked trails, lanes and bridle paths.
In this uncontaminated environment, among the hundred year old chestnut and impressive beech woods, it is possible to come across rare and protected plant species, a rich underbrush, and numerous deer: for example roe and fallow. Wolves have also been sighted, and the eagle has returned to inhabit the area.

Mount Giovi proved the perfect spot for both the young partisans who were planning their retribution and a man such as Don Milani who, despite the views of the Church, founded a revolutionary school.
The trails move along five different themes that develop within the park. The trails are marked with arrows at the main crossroads where we also find ten information charts with interesting facts on the events that took place in and helped shape the territory.

Lovely walks in the area, through woods, lakes and hills.
Mugello offers the traveller an uncontaminated environment in which to walk for days and days along country roads, bridle paths and trails. Although the Mugello Apennine does not present the lofty heights of the Alps it does offer quiet breathtaking landscapes in which to admire: tall beech forests, lining mountain crests, age-old “marrone” chestnut woods, startlingly fresh streams, stretches of meadows where different deer graze, old stone barns, and ancient hermitages that rest on far away valleys.

HORSE RIDING
Thanks to the excellent conditions of many SO.F.T. trails, it is possible to visit some of Mugello’s most enchanting and secluded places on horse-back.
A long stretch of the main trail, as well as many secondary ones, is easily accessible on horse-back. Many trails, however, are obstructed, and the riding clubs in Mugello offer riders who are new to the territory invaluable information on accessible bridle paths.

Recreational activities
For some years now the Mugello territory, with its particular natural setting, has been considered an ideal place for sporting events such as canoeing, sailing and windsurfing – on Lake Bilancino mostly, but also in other localities. There are, in fact, numerous charming smaller lakes where the visitor can spend the day in the open air sport fishing. Mugello also offers the possibility of flying a glider in Figliano (Borgo San Lorenzo), or relaxing on the remarkable 18 hole golf course in Scarperia.

The Mugello shelter for birds of prey
For all nature lovers, and especially animal lovers, the CRR shelter in Vicchio definitely provides an interesting stop.
Like all animal shelters, the CRR is not a zoo, but rather a hospital for wild animals.
Its main priority is to cure, heal and then free birds of prey and other wild animals (tawny owls, little owls, owls, goshawks, eagles, buzzards etc.) suffering from numerous illnesses and accidents.
The shelter houses from 250 to 300 birds of prey a year, not including the incredible number of nesting birds that arrive in early spring and summer and the birds that are taken captive.

Rafting, kayaking and SUP
Now it's possibile to discover the Mugello area in an unsual way: rafting, kayaking with canoes and SUP. On the Sieve river but also on Lake Bilancino.
