Arctic Fox

The Arctic Fox Centre is in Súðavík town and they have a living fox in a cage outside the museum, for you to see and admire. The museum has information on the arctic fox (Melrakki) and is quite interesting to visit. In the summer they are open from 9am to 6pm, but call them first at tel. 456-4922 to check.

Hesteyri is a deserted village located in Hesteryafjord, which is the westernmost fjord of the Jokulfirdir area. During the most flourishing period around 80 people live in the village. It was abandoned in the mid 20th century and houses in the area are now used as summerhouses.

Vigur (Puffin island) is one of three islands in Ísafjarðardjúp. The island is long an narrow and gets its name from the shape, Vigur means spear.
