Neighborhoods

Breweries and funky street art! A good centralized spot to start from would be Land Grant Brewery or BrewDog brewery. This neighborhood is right off of the bike path, too - we live very close to a large riverfront bike path that gets you to these neighborhoods. If you're interested in biking, there is a Lyft station around the corner on City Park. Biking the bike path is so fun and you'll enjoy the city views. Also a very short drive via uber/lyft or car.

Definitely the core vibrant part of our city, there is everything you could ask for from nice restaurants to divey bars to everything in between. It runs down High Street – just north of downtown - starting right at Goodale heading north. Fun galleries, breweries, eateries, unique shops, etc. Here is an art gallery map which gives you an idea of where to go to see stuff: http://shortnorth.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Gallery-and-Art-Map-18_0801.pdf. There are a ton of places in this area, you really can't go wrong. It's fun to hop around. We're a big fan of Seventh Son Brewery (make sure to say hi to their kitty, "Assistant Manager", and North High Brewery). Brothers Drake Meadery is a cool spot with live jazz occasionally. Speaking of live jazz, the Ginger Rabbit has a very Chicago-esque jazz club vibe that I recommend - but on busy nights be sure to make table reservations. For a nicer dinner, we enjoy Hyde Park. The carrot cake there - YUMMM. Townhall is also a great lunch option (although it can get rowdy at night). Lincoln Social has a killer happy hour with some views. Marcella's also has a delicious happy hour - we enjoy the bar tables by the windows to people-watch. Goodale Park is nearby and a lovely place to stroll post-happy hour.

Very close to Short North (walkable) and has a slew of things – North Market is a fun little market building with vendors and eateries. There are also sport bars and as the name would imply: arenas. Nationwide Arena, Lower.com Field, Huntington Park for baseball, hockey and soccer. Arena District borders downtown central. Downtown Columbus includes cute coffee shops/eateries downtown with bike paths down most of 4th/3rd. Gay Street has several bars/restaurants along with a night market. We like biking to Pecan Pennys downtown.

This is our beautiful neighborhood! Historical and great for walking. The houses and gardens are beautiful. German Village runs from City Park (West) to Parsons (East), Livingston (North) to Thurman (South). 3rd Street has a collection of coffee spots, restaurants, chocolate shops etc. Schiller Park is just steps away and perfect for walks, jogs, fishing, and bird-watching. There’s an outdoor performance stage where you can often watch a play (look up Shakespeare in the Park to learn more), a recreation center, benches, beautiful statues, outdoor art, a playground and more! The ducks are friendly and people (and their dogs) are friendlier. During the summer months, there is a farmers' market on 3rd Street next to the St Marys Church on Saturdays. Once a month, there is a "makers mart" craft and food event just a half-block away at Thurman and City Park. Finally, check out The Big Room to see what alternative rock shows are playing - their venue is right across High Street (on Deshler). During the winter months, look into Village Lights - you'll feel like you're in a Hallmark Movie with lanterns, free hot chocolate and holiday-decorations on every brick-lined street! A walk through snowy Schiller Park is lovely, as well. We like to spend winter trying new restaurants in the neighborhood and investing in the arts. Stauf’s Coffee and the Book Loft (30-room bookstore) are right next to each other and would make a cozy afternoon. There are many to choose from but my favorite coffee is Pistacia Vera and Fox in the Snow being a close second. There are plenty of pretty restaurants with dive bars sprinkled in the neighborhood... for a nice evening dinner, I recommend Chapmans (down the street on 3rd). I also absolutely love Comune restaurant on the east side of German Village - it's vegan but even my meat-loving, not-so-big-on-veggies husband enjoys it. It's conveniently located right next to Parson's Brewery (good spot for groups!). Over by the house, we LOVE Fox and the Snow café (delicious egg sammich and strong tasty coffee). South Village Grille has never failed us (especially recommend the pizza). Skillet (a few blocks east) supposedly has one of the best brunches in the city but there’s usually a wait. Emmetts Cafe is down City Park and they have delicious brunch food - although it's small in there so it might be better to do a pick-up order and bring it back to picnic in the park. Also to note, by Emmetts are two fancy cocktail places: Antiques on High and LawBird. Walk over to the Brown Bag Delicatessen for great sandwiches just across the park. Just next to it is Jeni's Ice Cream window for dessert. For a truly German Village Experience, head over to Schmidt’s Sausage Haus. The Old Mohawk is a nice neighborhood bar and eatery on the same block on the northern corner (my father has a pretty funny story about being on leave in the early 60s and playing on their piano - which is still in the restaurant).

Sightseeing

We are very close to the Scioto Trail bike path which can get you to downtown, the Franklinton area, Arena District and more. The views are lovely. We enjoy riding to different areas of Columbus via bike. There is a Lyft bike station around the corner on City Park and Scooters for rent around the park.
