Camano/Stanwood Food scene

These are local spots on the island and in Stanwood that we like to eat on a regular basis.
We love this spot when we are hungry for great local food and thirsty for some local beers. When you eat here...you feel like a local. I highly recommend the crab roll....the bread is a treat and the crab is always local and fresh. Be sure and get an order of the street corn and fried cauliflower as well.

This is a great spot to pick up some food to take home or sit out on their patio and watch the golfers wiz by in their carts. Fresh bar and grill food with a little something for everyone. My favorites are the mushroom fries, gambit salad, salmon tacos and nachos with chicken. Big portions that will fill you up and please your tastebuds. Super friendly staff.

You may not think you find fresh and legit thai food in the Skagit Valley, but Thai Thai Kitchen will not disappoint. Great for dine in or takeout. We love this new little hotspot. Family owned and run by a wonderful and friendly family. Mom and son cook in the kitchen and their cheerful daughter works front of house. We always get the Tom Kha soup to share and then usually something from the house specials page. My husband is obsessed with the Crispy Basil Chicken. I like to bring on the heat with an order of Angry Seafood or Pla Pad Pik Thai Dom. They make all of their own condiments so be sure to explore those as well.

The guys at Baked Cafe are killing it with their burgers. Their buns are made on site and grab a bag while there (or a loaf of homemade cinnamon raisin bread). The burgers i have eaten here definitely exist in rarified air. So juicy and so much flavor!! They are always doing specials so stop in often. They even serve up breakfast specials.

A restaurant in a state park?? You betcha and it is incredible. This is a great spot to have lunch on the weekends. Be sure and check their hours as they are only open several days a week. Its a great spot for a soup and sandwich combo. Be sure and take home with you a fresh frozen pie to bake at home. They also have frozen chicken pot pies. Both just like grandma used to make.

Needing a quick burrito or handmade tamale fix? This local roadside spot is the place for you. My order is the burrito Linda with red pork and smothered in green sauce. I also often will add a chicken tamale smothered in mole sauce. Be sure and get some of their homemade salsas.

It's always nice to have a reliable and friendly teriyaki spot close by. This is our spot! They have a great bim bim bap and spicy teriyaki chicken. Get the bento box for a full meal experience. Brown rice available. Super friendly brothers run front of house....and make some pretty decent sushi as well.

Blue Heron Kitchen and Bar is Camano's latest restaurant addition. It is a very popular spot for lunch and very lively for dinner. We love the appetizer section.

If you are looking for farm fresh (literally just pulled out of the ground) produce, be sure and stop at this local farm stand (cash, check or venmo). This is a self service vegetable stand of some of the most amazing tasting veggies you will ever have. Rachel, the farmer, knows how to grow great food.

City/town information

Bow Edison is the perfect pit stop before doing the infamous Chuckanut Drive. Get a loaf or several at the world renowned Bread Farm. Stop for a bit to eat at Slough Food and pick up items for your pantry. Walking the main street is like stepping back in time to the wild Pacific Northwest. "Over time, Edison, which enjoys one of the most pleasant locations in the valley, out of the shadow of the mountains and right along mellow Samish Bay, has become a magnet for the types of people who like the idea of life in a place like this—artists, artisans, bakers, urbanites-turned-farmers. Today, with just one main drag, Edison manages two very good bakeries (Breadfarm, perhaps one of the West Coast's best, and the charming Farm to Market Bakery, on the edge of town), multiple breakfast joints (there's the eclectic Tweet's Café, or the classic Edison Café, great for French toast), a popular taqueria (Mariposa), thoughtful, farm-to-table dinners at The Rhody, sizzling steaks, chilly Samish Bay oysters and dancing on the weekends at the classic Old Edison." -Food and Wine

La Conner is the perfect day trip spot to experience everything magical about the Skagit Valley. Its a very peaceful drive through stunning open farmland showing all the best the valley has to offer. This small water town is loaded with shops, restaurants and even an art museum. Give yourself several hours to explore. Some of my favorite places to shop at are Bunnies by the Bay, Nasty Jack's, Pac Nor Westy, B. U. tiful, and Cassera art gallery. A massive sandwich at Calico Cupboard is a must. Looking for a great spot to eat dinner check out Fork or COA. COA is our current obsession....fresh and innovative mexican food by a local family.

Chuckanut Drive, the sea-level Skagit Valley farmlands lie before you with views to the west of the San Juan Islands before the road starts rising. More than 10 curvy miles hug the cliffs of the Chuckanut Mountains, flashing views of the Salish Sea bays and islands below as you wind your way through the towering evergreen forest. The route was used during Prohibition by bootleggers coming in from Canada. Our two favorite stops along Chuckanut Drive are the Oyster Bar and Taylor's Shellfish Farm. The Oyster Bar is a quintessential PNW old school restaurant tucked into the roadside. You feel like you are eating in a treehouse. The view is definitely the wow factor at this spot. Taylor's is the spot to hit if you like your oysters fresh from the see. This is their farm spot where all the oysters are pulled from and shipped to Seattle. Eat at picnic tables right on the beach.

Places to visit on Camano

We love doing the Hobbit Trail at the Iverson Spit. Easy walking trails and great driftwood beach on Port Susan. Nice spot to hang out and have a picnic lunch.

You probably didn't come to Camano to visit an art gallery, but....whoa. This is a spot not to be missed simply for a peaceful stroll through the forest/sculpture park. So many fun and over the top pieces of outdoor sculpture and installations for the entire family to enjoy. Be sure and check out the gallery as well and get in touch with the creative side of some truly amazing artists.

Camano island is blessed with two state parks. Cama State Park is my favorite. They have an awesome lunch cafe and a beautiful community center that displays quilts from the Cama State Park Quilters. Head down to the beach to explore the reconditioned fishing cabins from the 1930's that have been completely restored and available for overnight rentals. The Center for Wooden Boats is the crown jewel. Beautifully restored boat house is home to dozens of wooden boats for you to explore and touch.

Anytime someone comes to visit us on Camano island we always take them to Barnum Point. There is either the upper loop trail with sweeping views South to Mt Rainer or the beach route that takes you around the point down on the water. A definite must get out and do.

Everyone likes a little pampering during a getaway. We go to Camano Nails and Spa every 2 to 3 weeks to get pedicures. The women that work there are very friendly and do great work without breaking the bank. The do great manicures as well. Be sure and book your same day appointment.
