Transportation
Transportation is important... and book this as soon as possible! Myself as well as friends and family have had great experiences with this rental service. I'd recommend a Jeep if you'd like to explore harder to reach beaches, or parts of the reserve!

When traveling to Vieques there are THREE ways to arrive
FIRST: Make sure to book your transportation ( jeep, golfcart) in advance! NEXT: Three ways to arrive from Puerto Rico to the Island of Vieques:
1. You can book a direct flight from a major Puerto Rico airport to the island of Vieques. If you chose this method it requires the least amount of planning.
2. Taxi and ride the Ferry in Ceiba! Allow 2 hours from the airport to travel and be on the ferry. Buy ferry tickets and book your taxi in advance.
3. Taxi and small plane from Cieba! Allow for 2 hours from the airport to travel and be on plane. Buy plane tickets and book taxi in advance.

Transportation is KEY for a successful trip!
When traveling to a small island like Vieques, it means services are run by smaller businesses and families.
BEFORE YOU TRAVEL: book your vehicle(s) of choice! Whether this is a jeep or golf cart... make sure you have it booked before your arrival or there may not be anything available.
Additionally, make sure your way to get there as well as return home is booked. Taxi's, ferry tickets, and small island planes are scheduled events just like airports. I recommend booking these as soon as possible!

Should it stay home, or come with you?!
Vieques is special, but not like other places and unless you're staying beyond a 2-3 week period, a carry on is all you need!
We recommend: 1 pair sandals, 1 pair sneakers or closed toed shoes, shorts, t-shirts, one pair of pants, one long sleeve/sweatshirt, bathing suits, sunglasses/hat, and maybe one business casual outfit if you decide to do a special meal out. It's that simple!
Personal toiletries, travel sunscreens, travel after sun treatments and lotions are also recommended.
***The local roosters here are vocal and start early! EAR PLUGS should be on your packing list!
