Sightseeing

Enjoy the city life in biggest city in the Pacific Northwest! Check out Pike Place Market, the first Starbucks, the Space Needle, the aquarium, the great food scene and more. 1. To get to West Seattle just drive to the Southworth ferry and it will drop you off at the other side at Fauntleroy ferry docks, right at the south end of Lincoln Park. A short bus ride away and you can visit Alki beach, a favorite for local Seattleites. You can drive onto the ferry or pay to park and walk on to the ferry. Walk-ons are free going across but it costs money to come back. There’s a good night life in West Seattle as well. 2. To get to downtown Seattle you have three ferry options. If you don’t like boats you can drive around, it just takes longer and isn’t as enjoyable in our opinion. a) The quickest is to take the newer Fast Ferry boat from Southworth ferry docks to downtown. It’s smaller than the traditional/large ferry boats and it’s just a 26 minute crossing, but you can’t drive on. b) You can drive north to the Bremerton Ferry Terminal and drive or walk on the ferry to cross over to downtown Seattle. That crossing takes about an hour. There are parking garages if you want to walk on. Once you’re in downtown Seattle there is a pretty good bus system. c) Bremerton ferry also offers a fast ferry (the smaller boat) with a 30-minute crossing. If you find yourself in Bremerton or up north, you might want to check it out. For more details download the WSDOT app or check for current pricing online.

If you want to check out a more local place, Gig Harbor is just 30 minutes south and has a cute waterfront downtown with some fun shops. Gig Harbor offers more restaurant options than Port Orchard does, so if you aren’t finding something that suits your fancy here but want to stay close, definitely check Gig Harbor out.

Beach Stop

While there is a small public beach just steps from your rental, this is a bigger beach about 1 hour North that is all sand, and not the typical rocks that you’ll find at most WA state beaches. On the way there you can stop by C&B nuts, a small peanut (and other) nut butter factory.
While there is a small public beach with sand very close to the triplex, this is a larger sandy beach if you care to venture out. With views of Whidbey island and Mount Baker you can enjoy an afternoon at Point No Point Beach, check out the lighthouse, and maybe even stop by CBs Nuts on the way there (a tiny peanut/nut butter factory/shop).

Norwegian inspired town

Visit a WA waterfront tourist town about 45 minutes North whose first inhabitants were Norwegian settlers. The town has that Nordic feel and a cute downtown with excellent window shopping, food options, cafes, etc. Once a year there is a Viking festival. There is also a tiny aquarium that is donation-based (but check online because it’s been different since covid). Don’t miss Sluy’s Bakery while you’re there.

Local restaurants

Here are a few of our favorite local restaurants: 1. That One Place (an American-style diner with an automobile theme) 2. Puerto Vallarta (Mexican) 3. Family Pancake House (a casual place similar to an IHOP). 4. Close by in Bremerton: Noah’s Ark ( a fun family-owned relaxed diner with Philly Cheesestakes)
