The most accessible and best local view is from the main lawn of the Griffith Observatory, which is also the starting point for many of the Hollywood Sign trails (although none allow you within touching proximity). If you’re looking for an even better vantage point for pictures without hiking, we recommend driving to Lake Hollywood Park (3160 N Canyon Dr., 90027) in Beachwood Canyon which puts you at the base of the canyon below the sign.
