Views from the upper level of Madison and surrounding lakes. Saturday enjoy the farmer's market around the square, Wednesday nights music or Thursdays at the Union.
In my unbiased opinion this is the most beautiful state capital in the US; and no I haven't seen them all :-)
The state Capitol is a must-see for any visitor to the area. The marble and stone that makes up its grand halls and stairways represent the many facets of Wisconsin’s natural heritage.
The Capitol has such exquisite design and architecture, makes it a wonderful place to explore.
Take a tour and see some of the lovely murals located in some of the offices. Free tours are offered daily, year round except on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas. Tours start at the information desk Monday through Saturday at 9:00, 10:00,…

“This museum is a little chameleon - you would barely notice it if you weren't looking for it. It is free and fantastic. It's set right by some beautiful UW buildings that compliment the museum experience. It's open from 8am - 8pm - that's late! I've never seen it crowded. ”

“Even in the winter, this place is magical, especially if you visit the Conservatory, a tropical paradise. Stroll through 16 acres of outdoor display gardens and an indoor, tropical conservatory at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. In the outdoor gardens, visit the Thai Pavilion and Garden. Olbrich's Thai Pavilion is the only one in the continental United States and the only one outside of Thailand surrounded by a garden. Stop and smell the roses in the Rose Garden, opened to the public in 2005. Olbrich's rose garden features innovative mixed borders of Midwest hardy shrub roses and perennials. Also stroll through other specialty gardens such as the Perennial Garden, Sunken Garden, and Herb Garden. Olbrich's outdoor gardens are open daily, year-round.”
