This is a fantastic place set on the coastline for people interested in history, having a picnic in the grounds or just going for a stroll. Strolling and picnicking on the ground is free and you can go inside the Castle ruins for a cost. If is owned by English Heritage. The village is worth a walk too, as it has some beautiful and interesting historical houses.

Castle and fort built in the 3rd century AD. Beautiful views over the water to Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower.

This is where Portsmouth started and you are treated to hundreds of years of history here - I love this place and we often show it off to our visitors.

One of our favourite walks. You can walk through the gates completely free and enjoy the grounds in and around the castle. On a nice day you can take a picnic or visit the cafe in the little church. If you would like to visit the Great Tower in the castle there is a charge.

Only a pleasant 25 minutes walk from home along Castle Street. See it’s many unique, original town houses and listed cottages with several of the them honouring blue plaques. Cared for by English Heritage, a visit to Portchester Castle makes for a great day out for all, with plenty too see and explore without going inside the main castle building and up the spiral staircase to views over the Solent. Within the inner bailey you will Find the beautiful St Mary’s Church with tea rooms serving from 10-4pm and small children’s play area. The castle is very popular with dog walkers and a favourite spot for crabbing. Plenty of room for picnicking and ball games within the safety of the inner bailey so no need to worry about balls going into the road. Across the other side of the castle field area, towards the A27 is a newly updated playground with castle climbing structure, zip wire, swings including baby/toddler and disabled and roundabout.
