The Ritzy’s amazing cafe spills onto the busy street outside, where you can have wine or a peppermint tea and watch buskers, preachers, skateboarders, boozers, and hipsters. Hip-hop karaoke, yoga, film quizzes, and other events are held in the upstairs bar. The cinema is owned by the art-housey Picturehouses group and shows a wide range of films. A century of protests took place on Windrush Square on the cinema’s doorstep, and that’s still felt—you’re sure to pass at least three proselytisers on your way in. Brixton comprises a real mix of people, but the square unites them. Explore its history at the nearby Black Cultural Archives Centre.

The Ritzy in Brixton is one of the UK's largest specialist cinemas. Run by the Picturehouse group, it shows a mix of arthouse, mainstream and world movies on its five screens. Built in 1910, the Ritzy retains its unique proscenium arch, as well as a few stray cherubs, making it one of the most…
The Ritzy cinema opened in 1911 and was one of England’s earliest purpose built cinemas, seating over 750 seats in the single auditorium. This beautiful Victorian cinema is a 20 minute walk from the flat.
Cultural and entertainment options abound – it’s simply a matter of choosing your pleasure among the slew of restaurants, live music venues and trendy bars. Boredom is not an option. I can recommend the Ritzy cinema – arguably one of the best cinemas south of the river. In addition to five screens,…
A cosy cinema with a friendly atmosphere, comfortable seats and a great range of independent snacks. The bar is relaxed and looks onto adjacent Windrush Square. Great day or night.
The Ritzty Cinema is a local landmark. Now owned by the Picturehouse group, it's a great little place to see the latest films.
Great cinema (half price tickets every Monday), which also has a programme of comedy, games and music events on upstairs
A few doors down from the Black Cultural Archives. Have a drink while you watch a film.

“One of London’s premier live music venues, the 4,921-capacity Brixton Academy has booked an unbelievable roll-call of music talent since it opened in 1983. Previously this building had been the Astoria Cinema, completed in 1929. Although the lower seating was removed when the cinema was converted in the 70s, a lot of the original neo-Renaissance details remain, like a proscenium arch, false loggia, balustrade and Corinthian columns.”
