The CCCB is a public institution created in 1994 to foster debate and cultural activity around the city and other key aspects of contemporary societies. Located in the heart of the old city of Barcelona, where it has made a considerable contribution towards the revitalisation of the area, the CCCB is both deeply rooted in its local district and concerned with modernity and global issues. It presents major thematic exhibitions, organizes debates, conference series and research on urban issues and current affairs, and hosts literature, dance, music and independent video festivals.

“In the heart of El Raval, the MACBA has been offering top-notch curation of contemporary art for more than 20 years. Its permanent collection numbers more than 5,000 works from some of the biggest names in the art world. The museum is also great at scheduling seminars that focus on contemporary art and its relevance to other disciplines. Be sure and visit its substantial archive directly across the square, which is full of skaters grinding around in a performance art all their own.”

Bar
“located on the Carrer Sant Pau, opened in 1820 and looks like it hasn't been changed much since then. The place is usually crowded as people pack themselves in to enjoy the bohemian ambiance. The bar is known as a place to drink some absinthe, a powerful drink popular when the bar first opened its doors. A slotted spoon, a sugar cube and small bottle of water are served with your order of absinthe to facilitate the ritual of drinking the liquor. This involves placing the sugar cube on the spoon, dipping it into the absinthe, lighting it on fire and then extinguishing it with the bottle of water so that the sugar drips down into the drink. Konserthall
“At Apolo you get exquisite electronica with DJ Fra and Kosmos as your gurus. Downstairs in La [2] it's Astin, where you'll hear the best house and disco with DJ Coco, Arnau Obiols and Morgan Hammer. Nitsa is Guardiola's Barça of Barcelona clubs, a place where some of the best DJs have got the dance floor pounding, and the heavy-hitters just keep coming. Apolo's three spaces also feature label-free gigs. Note that buying tickets for the band doesn't include admission to the club night: you'll need to re-enter for that, and pay an extra charge. Emerging acts and veterans of pop, rock, folk and electronica from around the world take to the stage every day of the week.”
