Ocean Beach

The north end of the beach is fronted by a low curving wall that’s an always-changing display of street art. Further south at Lincoln Way, there’s another one worth checking out. Just bring an extra layer—no matter what the weather is like in the rest of the city, out here you might walk into a fog bank so thick you can't see the water. At the north end of the beach near the Cliff House restaurant, take a look inside the Camera Obscura—a rare device that uses sunlight to project an image of the outside surroundings onto a surface inside. It’s based on a 15th century design by Leonardo da Vinci.

Come dip your toes into the cold Pacific Ocean. (Be careful of wading in. Not only is the water cold but the under tow pull is very strong!) Walk or cycle along the Great Highway (the highway closed to vehicular traffic on weekends & holidays). Food and drink at Beach Chalet. Stop in the new Pop up…

Park
“What to say? One of the great parks of the United States. Just head down the hill to Kezar Stadium (at the very bottom of Willard Street) and you'll see the GGP right beyond it (walk around Kezar to the west to enter the park). You can also enter on Stanyan and Haight (and at many other points). Enjoy the Academy of Sciences, de Young Museum, Japanese Tea Garden, Stow Lake, the Conservatory of Flowers (great night time light shows in the summer and winter) and many, many other features of the park.”

Zoo
“We are not huge zoo fans, but the SF Zoo is worth it for the amazing playground and petting zoo alone. There is also a fun train ride and wonderful gorilla space. Close by and next to Ocean Beach.”

Konstmuseum
“In Golden Gate Park, the de Young Museum is a fine arts museum, and one of the largest public art institutions in San Francisco. Exhibits cover a variety of time frames and geographical locations. While art and period interiors from North America feature strongly in the collection, many other exhibits from Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Near East are of note. British art and folk art from Africa, America, and the Pacific Islands, are also well represented. Admission to the de Young Museum includes free same-day admission to the Legion of Honor.”

“Beautiful (and easy) hiking trail overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Pick a sunny day for the views although I also love the misty fog or as we call him, Karl the Fog! He even has his own instagram @KarlTheFog ”

Science Museum
“The California Academy of Sciences, in Golden Gate Park, is an architectural marvel as well as a multifaceted museum. This state-of-the-art "green" building with a sustainable design has a 2.5-acre Living Roof, covered with native plants and even rolling hills to match the natural surroundings. The roof also has solar panels to generate electricity, and the soil acts as natural insulation. The walls are largely made of glass allowing for natural light. Inside is an incredible natural history museum, planetarium, aquarium, rainforest, and more. The Steinhart Aquarium includes some 38,000 live specimens and a 25-feet-deep coral reef. The Osher Rainforest is four stories high and houses animals and amphibians in a fantastic layout. You can descend in a glass elevator to the deepest depths and look up through an acrylic tunnel to see fish swimming overhead in the flooded forest. The Kimball Natural History Museum has skeletons of a T-Rex and blue whale, along with an array of interesting exhibits.”
