In 1894 the first New Brighton Pier was opened and for the next 70 years it provided the citizens of Christchurch with a recreational destination in the traditional British style. Along the way the pier had a “penny arcade” full of games and amusements and even a nightclub, the Shoreline, at the shore end. Watch the surfers and fisherpeople (or partake) then have a coffee or brunch at the Pier cafe

It's a pier. Don't mind the fishermen...they don't mind you ;)

Take a stroll out to the end of the pier and watch the changing light on the waves, meet fisher-folk and check out the surfers.

Best time to visit is at night with some fish and chips on the beach. Pier lights up different colours at night.
