This is a must see in Humboldt County. Fern Canyon offers beautiful hiking trails through the redwoods as well as beach access. Fun Fact: multiple Jurassic Park movies were filmed here.

You can see why this place was used to film parts of many movies. The main hike is perfect for anyone, yet there are longer trails for the adventurous.

Steven Spielberg described Fern Canyon as "an unforgettable natural wonder" when choosing it as a location for Jurassic Park 2. A favorite day trip among locals, in northern Humboldt. DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 101, drive approx. 2 mile north of Orick to Davison Road and turn left. Follow through Elk Meadow and onto dirt road (motorhomes and trailers are not allowed on this road). Follow this spectacular scenic drive for 6 miles until you reach the Gold Bluffs Beach kiosk. Pay the $8.00 day use fee (cash or check only). California State Park and National Park Service passes are accepted. Follow the road along the beach for another 3 miles (fording through several small streams -- do-able by car) until the parking lot at the end. The trailhead to Fern Canyon is there.

This gorgeous canyon sided with waterfalls and ferns is a must see. It is one of the finest hikes in the area. It can be reached by car, or hiked into from the Prairie Creek Visitor's Center.

Most beautiful hike through a fern grotto! Creek runs down the middle of it and surrounded by redwood forest and ocean.
