Interesting visitors centre and especially appealing to history boffins and young boys who like canons and old weaponry. Good cafe situated in the restored wall garden.

The Battle of the Boyne was a battle in 1690 between the forces of the deposed King James II of England, and those of Dutch Prince William of Orange who, with his wife Mary II, had acceded to the Crowns of England and Scotland in 1688. The Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre is located in the recently restored 18th century Oldbridge House, which is on the battlesite. Free access to the battlesite, parklands and the formal gardens.

You’ll find the fantastic Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre located in the recently restored 18th century Oldbridge House in Meath.The Battle of the Boyne took place in 1690 between the forces of King James VII and II of Scotland, England, and Ireland and those loyal to the Dutch Prince William of Orange.William brought 36,000 troops to the battle while James had just 25,000.

The Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre is located in the recently restored 18th century Oldbridge House in Meath, the site of a famous historic battle in the 17th century. Visitors to the centre will discover the story of this infamous historic battle between two kings that occurred on 1 July 1690 (or 11 July, according to our modern calendar). At this battle site on the banks of the River Boyne, two rival monarchs, King James II and his son-in-law William III, clashed violently with fearful consequences. Both kings commanded their armies in person. William had 36,000 troops and James had 25,000, the largest number of soldiers ever deployed: (www.battleoftheboyne.ie)
