Above the main entrance you can see the Loggia of the Blessings. From this loggia the Pope blesses people. Even higher up there is the dome. The dome was designed by Michelangelo Buonarroti. Michelangelo was a great artist and architect. Romans call it “Cupolone”. Cupolone means “big dome”. It’s more than 130 metres tall. You can step 357 steps and reach it. If you arrive at the top you can see all of Rome. Inside the Basilica there are 11 chapels, 25 altars and many works of art. In the first chapel on the right there is a beautiful marble statue. This statue is called the “Pietà”. Michelangelo Buonarroti made it. In the statue the Virgin Mary holds in her arms Jesus just after he died. If you keep walking on the right side you will find Saint Peter’s statue. This statue is made of bronze. Visitors queue up to touch his foot, and in this way it has become shiny. In the centre of the Basilica there is the altar of the Pope.

I really recommend the tour that includes the Vatican Museums, the Cappella Sistina and St. Peter's Basilica. St. Peter's Basilica is one of the largest buildings in the world and is the largest of the papal basilicas. Currently St. Peter's Basilica is a building measuring 218 meters long and 136 meters high up to its dome with an area of 23,000 m2. This basilica has been considered an architectural work of great importance both for the size of the facade and for the quality of its work, annually it receives people from different countries of the world who come inside to admire the most beautiful sculptures of all time and appreciate a job that took centuries to build.

St.Peter’s is the world’s largest Basilica of Christianity, nested into the heart of the Vatican city. It was consecrated in 1626. The positioning of most of the interior furnishing of the Basilica was assigned to Bernini by his untiring pope Urbano VIII Barberini. Contrary to what one might reasonably assume, St Peter's is not a cathedral - that honour in Rome goes to the Basilica of St John Lateran. St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City 🇻🇦 When I first moved to Cincinnati, a collection of Vatican artifacts was being exhibited at Cincinnati Museum Center. The Legacy of Popes was the best traveling exhibit ever hosted in Cincinnati and I had a chance to share that experience with my family. There is so much history at the Vatican. One winter, I had the opportunity to visit my Italian cousin and her family near Rome. I took that opportunity to also visit the Vatican. This is a picture from that visit. After winning two roundtrip tickets to Europe from Lufthansa, I took that opportunity to bring my mom to the Vatican and gift her that experience too.
