Travel to the hill country out 71 west, 45 minutes by car: One of the many LCRA-run Recreation Parks on the Colorado River in the hill country, this one near Spicewood. The lakes are all full as of this writing (2016) -- for the first time in 50 years. The parks in the Western district region are great places to camp, boat and spend time with family. Local to some award-winning barbeque like Opie's, and It's All Good BBQ. I used to work at this particular park, and it's lovely.

Boating, mountain bike trails, camping, fishing, beautiful lake views... Miles of mountain biking trails, miles to hike, miles of lakeshore. Beautiful in it’s own way, whatever the season - if you appreciate the beauty of nature. Muleshoe Bend Recreation Area is arguably one of the best places to view bluebonnets in Texas each spring! With almost 10 miles of trails to explore, hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and campers alike will all find something to love here.
